[Hello, Turtle. Here is an Enjolras who looks a bit embarrassed that he's even started this late night/very early morning post, but well. The question he wants to ask IS actually a valid one, now that he has TIME to ask it, and he finds the current most popular phrases to be incredibly awkward or childish so..The hell with it. People have asked all sorts of questions here, haven't they? He's clearing his throat, flushing a little, then glancing into the vid directly and clearing his throat.]

A question, everyone.

I find that most of the current terms for one's...romantic friend...but more than such are either juvenile or not quite accurate. 'Boyfriend' for example, makes us sound as if we were children, 'Partner' has several connotations that do not immediately state the obvious and 'Lover' sounds particularly awkward.

[And well, they have not quite gotten to the lovers stage yet. Enjolras is hardly ready for it and still accustoming himself to the kissing and cuddling things that he never let himself seek out in life.]

When others here speak of the other piece of their soul as he is to me...what terms seem to work best for you?

No, I consider you a dear friend now. Of course, I have not had much friends. But I am glad to have you, m'sieur Enjolras. [She smiles at him. Part of her is still incredibly unsure how to act around him. As such, she will continue to do whatever appeases her at the moment.]

And I have had friends, but very few, and never a young woman among them. Not that it should matter of course, but socially, at home...

[It simply is the way things were. But now that they may be changed, he sees the benefit, and well, it has been good for him, he knows. He only hopes that Eponine might feel the same with them.]

Well, I am glad I can know you here, where life is better. You have given me much to think about, and much to learn. I do enjoy your company.

You had appearances to keep up. I understand. I never got along well with other women. My company was mostly kept by men.

If you had known me before, we would not be friends. Likely, you would have met me only if I had wanted something from you. [She smiles carefully.] I enjoy yours, as well. I'm glad I can provide someone as educated as you with things to think and learn.

We did, at that. A shame we had to do such, when you are among the people yourself. A perspective such as yours would have been valued.

Not that Enjolras wishes to discount Eponine as merely a representative of the lowest classes of course. It is simply what comes to mind as far as those things go. Because he cannot think of a better, more tactful way to say that, he keeps his mouth shut on the point.]

But no, I think you are right. The divide was too sharp for any of that. The new republic was meant to make us equal but we had hardly reached that point just yet. It's good to know things have changed here.

Careful, I do not believe you want me to think that I am only some token character in your revolution. There is more to me than my poverty and sex.

And well we might have turned you into one, unknowing, then.

But no, there is your mind, there are your thoughts,the other parts of you you've shared.

Sometimes I think I started with the tendency to that. Objectifying anyone does not end well. It is something I am working on.

I do not doubt this.

Good. I am my own person, Enjolras. I will not fail to let you know that. I speak my mind when I wish. Perhaps I am impolite and strange. But I am me.

And I would rather you were you than any other. I need to be around people who will not stop speaking their minds, or telling me I am in error.

I would not live in ignorance if that may be helped, after all. There is no changing the world by forcing just the way I see it on to someone.

You, Enjolras, become more and more interesting the more I speak with you. And far wiser than I ever would have thought before.

[She frowns for a moment.] It is so strange to call you Enjolras whilst I call Combeferre by his first name. But I shall call you whatever you wish.

[And maybe one day, Marius would get tired of her calling him m'sieur Marius and just let her call him Marius.]

Well, my first is, rather awkward in context, actually. The Guard called me Apollo, among themselves, shortly before I was shot.

[Well, that and his name smacks of pretention as well.]

My given name is Apollon, and so..

[he shrugs]

I tend to use it even less than I did in life, now. It hardly ever applied at any rate.

Apollon. [She smiles softly.] It fits you. You are handsome and noble.

Do you know who Éponine is? Before the woman from Gaul?

I am no goddess. And you are not a god. But you are as good as one.

[Enjolras shrugs that off for the most part, uncertain of how it quite applies to him. If he WERE more like Apollo, then perhaps he could have brought the light forth sooner. As it was, he only did what he could, for the most part, found it not entirely enough, but did his best. That will have to suit them now.]

I do indeed.

[His half smile is back in place there.]

And no, we are not such things, nor I think should we attempt to be. But we are people, and we can be good ones, and before you say a thing, I see that you are here, and that, I think, is where the matter truly lies.

I am not certain I believe in any gods so much as it is, but there is a power in men all our own that belongs to us, and we can exercise. I think it is that basic goodness most of all.

Then you should know... Enjolras, I am not a good woman. I am nothing short of a devil, and you should not think otherwise of me. Everyone here seems to find me sweet and kind. I have hardly been that unless there is something else I wish for.

And I am hardly the saint that others seem to see me as. I am impatient and unkind, and act without thinking of others at most times. I tend, as I have said, to treat people as objects, and have made many mistakes. While I do not regret what brought me here, there are things in our rebellion I did wrong, glaringly so, and I continue in part, to do some of them here.

I am impatient, and caustic, I hurt others without thinking of it, and lead others into danger, knowing quite well they may not wish to do it.

[Why he is saying this to Eponine, he is not quite sure, especially because the rest of this is bad, but he might as well tell someone, if it helps her with her estimation of herself, to prove that even someone who is viewed in the light people see him in has made mistakes as well.]

I have been especially cruel to Marius lately, without his knowing it, and used his despair over his Cosette not being here to my advantage, if that helps. I put him into danger with the Empress, and I did not think twice of it. I feel badly for it now, and that I dismissed my other friends and their concerns as I did that, but the fact remains that I am no saint myself.

We are all human. We are capable of great mistakes, I think. I would say it is what we do to come back from them , how we use our potential to be great, that matters more. At least I'd hope it.

[She could have cursed Enjolras. Yelled at him, hated him for trying to hurt Marius. But the fact of the matter was, she had done the exact same thing.]

Perhaps we are more similar than one would think.

[She considered telling him what she had done to Marius. But no. She did not regret it. Not for an instant. And she would not tell him least he found it in himself to betray her and tell him.]

I shall tell no one what you have told me. Human. Yes, perhaps that is what we are. The blood staining the paving stones outside of the Corinth is proof enough of that.

You have a soothing voice, Apollon.

That is what I am trying to say, yes. That you are not so bad, or I am not so good, or we meet somewhere on the middle ground perhaps.

[If Enjolras had been in a better state of mind at the moment, perhaps he would not have. Another similarity, perhaps, not that it is one he truly knows about, still being under the impression Marius came to the barricade of his own accord.

As far as regret...he does not regret the raid itself or that Marius came on it. It's more that as he has gotten to genuinely appreciate Marius, his approach to all of this feels wrong, and off. He took it to confession, actually, but has still not managed to approach the other man about it, though he knows that well he should. He's sighing a little, as Eponine speaks. ]

Indeed. I do thank you for that. I must tell him myself, begin to make things right. I may not know Marius well yet, but I have come to appreciate him a good deal more here. He deserves that much from me, rather than me hiding behind it I think.

But yes, we bled the same, we died the same, and we are here, somehow, miraculously, just the same as any other might. I think there is no harm in that if we rise to the best of what that means...

It is easier to believe what you say about me when it is you that says it. That is what I meant by your soothing voice. I can understand why so many respect you, why you were the chosen leader. That is what I mean by your soothing voice.

[She considers his words, and nods.] You shall tell him, and become his friend. I, already now his friend, shall tell him as well. Perhaps together we can cheer him up! Make him less morose about his lark. [The old nickname for Cosette would die hard.]

And our night of drinking shall help cure us all!

Ah well...

[He does not know quite what to say to that, but settles, instead, for an awkward sort of smile at her.]

Thank you. I am not sure what to say other than that. I have not been told such before.

A good idea, I think. On all of those accounts. I am not much for drinking but on this occasion that is more than warranted.

Perhaps so, and in this case, it commemorates much as well. It would seem as though it may nicely help us with both of the purposes that we'll come to the tavern with.
