13N10 [VIDEO]
[Costigan appears on screen, frowning but seemingly less anxious and restless than usual.]
I forgot almost everyone here I know for over two weeks. [A beat.] I remember now.
[He doesn't mention that it hurt both physically and emotionally when that happened, or how he might have intentionally overdosed himself if not for Abigail's presence.]
Anyone ever find anything out about that?
[97% encrypted to Arthur]
Thanks for helping.
[97% encrypted to Abigail]
Dinner tonight?
[97% encrypted to Olivia] - added later
How you holdin' up?
[97% encrypted to Evandau] - added later
Can we talk?

Re: action;
Does it have anything to do with when he asked if someone could phase through a wall? It figures now that I can actually do that, he's gone home.
action;
[Costigan gives a shrug, returning his gaze to the coffee in his hand and taking another long sip.]
Re: action;
[ He thought for a moment, then shook his head. He hadn't pressed any further on that particular point either, having not been able to do what Lincoln had asked. ]
How is Olivia doing? They were partners, right?
action;
She's as good as she can be, but you should ask her, if you're worried.
Re: action;
[ Like both Jack and Costigan were; he sounds wry and amused when he says it, then pauses to take another tentative sip of the coffee. ]
But looking over his work gives you something to focus on, right?
[ "Rather than thinking about other things." ]
action;
[He glances up to the empty space out of habit before dropping his gaze again. The undercover takes a sip of coffee to kill time, trying to be as natural as possible while speaking to someone invisible. The change in his expression is minor, but someone who knows him well enough would recognize the discontent hidden beneath it.]
It's not my place. Olivia should be looking at them. [A pause, because he knows why she's not. What they were just talking about.]
Re: action;
[ He'll make time for the bakery between his other projects. ]
Maybe... but it says a lot that she trusts you to do it, right?
action;
Lincoln trusted me and we both trust Lincoln. Same reason I'm workin' with her now.
[Costigan straightens and shifts his weight, a subtle gesture of discomfort. Jack probably knows him well enough by this point to know it means the undercover prefers a change a subject.]
Re: action;
Did you get enough vouchers for the cold weather? I've been trying to keep the cold dry, so it won't be like Boston's dampness.
action;
Yeah, I'm good. Thanks, guy.
[He takes another long sip of his coffee, pauses, and then finishes it off.]
And thanks for stopping by.
Re: action;
[ A light note of teasing; there'd been a few times where he'd drifted by Costigan's place to see what the man was up to and glimpsed through the window a young woman instead. It was certainly none of his business and so of course he'd just moved on, but when it seemed like she was more frequently there than a average visitor might be, Jack had gotten curious. ]
action;
Abigail. She's a friend that needs looking after. [He maybe emphasizes the word 'friend' a little much.]
Re: action;
[ An innocent remark in reply but Jack's eyes have an (unseen) mirthful glint to them. ]
Does this mean I have to start using the door when I visit?
action;
No. Stick to my room or the kitchen and I'll let her know.
[Then he does that thing where he looks to the ceiling, then around, then down again. So very awkward. After a short silence, he speaks with all the hesitation and embarrassment in the world.]
She was staying here when I couldn't remember anyone. I didn't know her and I had to- to ask who she was, if she and I were.. [He trails off, trusting Jack to catch the unspoken. Then he pauses.] I remember why I was looking out for her, but it's.. complicated now. I saw her differently when I couldn't remember.
[He glances to where Jack should be, then down again, very slightly less awkward. As an afterthought, he adds.] Nothing happened. It's confusing is all.
Re: action;
If you couldn't remember her and she's been living here, that's not... a strange thing to assume, Billy. Not when everyone's normally given their own housing. But if she's a friend and she knows you didn't have your memories right, then she should understand.
[ The spirit definitely understands how it could be confusing, having been in a not dissimilar awkward place when Zatanna had started flirting with him because she didn't remember Dick. ]
Did she say anything about it?
action;
When my memories came back, I told her I needed some time. [Read: kicked her out.]
I'm planning to talk to her tonight.
Re: action;
[ Gracious acceptance of the correction, since the detail ultimately is a bigger distinction in Costigan's mind than it is in Jack's. ]
That's good. I'm sure everything will get worked out.
action;
I hope you're right.
[He's clearly not convinced.]
Re: action;
action;
I have a few people to talk to before dinner. [An open-ended declaration, hinting at Jack's time to go but still giving him time if there's anything else the guy wants to talk about. The usual cues.]
Re: action;
All right. You know how to get hold of me if something comes up.
action;
Sure. Thanks, guy.
