I have something to tell you all, and some of you might not believe me.

[Valdis' voice is hesitant, halting and uncertain]

There are very few of us left, it seems, who remember Malicant's reign or the atrocities committed by his followers. The death, the taint, the drugs and the suffering inflicted upon foreigner and Kedan alike is unknown to all of our newcomers. But this isn't just about that.

[A long pause, followed by an audible breath]

I have recently discovered that Milyn, the Cherrywood Healer, was involved with the Cultists. She reported directly to Daseng and created the drug known as Dust, as well as the base for Lucid.

[Another pause and then a low growl.]

She was our only ally among the Kedan when we first returned from the Dreaming, she aided us in defeating Malicant...but she also helped him wreak his havoc in the first place.

[Another growl]

I don't know about all of you, but I can't trust her anymore.

I suppose it couldn't be until now, because no one had the abilities needed to access the information. No one even knew the information existed, because the person who has it supposedly died...was murdered.

[Her eyes narrowed in dark suspicion. She had a hunch, and she did not like that hunch.]

I assure you, the man I got the information from is very much alive...

[Whether or not the soul belonged to the body was still under debate and Valdis really didn't like her own train of thought regarding that.]

So he faked his death, then?

[She was still suspicious. Valdis was being a little on the vague side, and this was serious enough that she wanted to know as much of the details as possible. Given the things she had seen and crossed through over the years.]

Well...not to my knowledge.

[She really didn't like how perceptive Zatanna was at the moment.]

The details are under debate...

I was here longer than most anyone else still around. Maybe there's something that could jog my memory of the earlier days.

Perhaps...I wouldn't know where to start though.

[Unless Zatanna's magic could fill the gap that Valdis' was missing.]

Did it ever cross your mind that Milyn could be capable of this sort of thing?

I almost wish I could say I had.

[Hindisight was 20-20, after all.]

Most of us knew she's a little...out there at times...but I kind of assumed after the final battle that, the way she looked after us and helped us out, she was on our side.

Now you've got me wondering if she was maybe the reason why we were stuck in that realm for an extra year before we finally woke up again. Especially considering all the trouble that caused us for a long while after. I mean, the locals blamed us. They thought we abandoned them. It was like they had no idea what had really happened. Does that mean she could have told them and purposely didn't?

I wish I knew the answer to that. Milyn told me that she loves us all dearly, but...

She kept telling me that all morality is grey, she didn't regret what she had done and I feel that she would do it again if she was so inclined.

She's not wrong. Exactly.

[About grey areas. Zatanna had spent the last four years learning that much the hard way.]

...I mean, except for the whole betrayal stuff. That, she's absolutely wrong about. And I don't blame you for not trusting her anymore. I'm not sure I do, either.

In her mind, she hasn't betrayed anyone, her actions weren't wrong and she is proud of having created Dust. I cannot trust someone who thinks that science should not be bound by concepts like right and wrong, that she is not bound by what is right and wrong.

[It was far too reminiscent of her own kind and how they believed that just because they could, that they should.]

[Blurring the lines for the sake of the greater good...maybe...but this didn't sound like the case at all. Zatanna nodded her agreement.]
