[The girl on the screen is tiny, likely barely more than 12. Her arms are folded across her chest, and her eyes, pale, seem to glare at the screen.]

[. . . Kind of. There’s also something a little off about that glare. It doesn’t quite seem to focus like a glare should.]

Okay, so whose bright idea was it to put dirt on some of the turtle shell, but not all of it? If you’re going to put dirt on a turtle in the first place, you should at least not be stupid about it and finish it off.

Also, what kind of turtle are we talking about here? Is this a turtle-duck, or a lion-turtle, or what? I tried to ask one of those kedan guys, but they wouldn’t tell me.

[A small smirk, highly self-satisfied.]

Guess they were still sore.

[She shrugs.] Anyway, name’s Toph for anyone who cares. You’ll learn it soon enough.

Probably the same people who decided that building a city on the back of a turtle was a good idea in the first place. [A beat.] Also, I think it's just a regular turtle we're talking here, if giant turtles could be called normal.

Giant turtles are never called normal. Except for lion-turtles. Those are supposed to be huge.

I've never heard of anyone seeing one, though.

But anyway, seems like the first thing you should do if you're going to build a city on a giant turtle is put dirt on it. All of it. How are you going to feed anyone and make buildings and stuff without dirt and stone?

Lion-turtles? [Squinting at you now, Toph. Something's up with her eyes.] That some kind of mutt where you're from? [Because mixed animal things are not a good sign where he's from.]

There's dirt. The turtle has trees and crops. Have you gone out to the Wood Sector yet? Plenty of it there.

[Nose wrinkle.] A dog? No, a lion-turtle.

They're kind of huge. Dunno how big they can even grow, but they've got shells on their backs and this huge . . . kind of weird face. Can't really describe them; I just got to feel a statue of one when I was younger.

And . . . wood's not really my thing. But if there's some dirt, I guess it's worth a shot.

[He can't help it if you come from a weird world, Toph!]

You got to feel- [Oh. She's blind. He's never really seen that many people who were blind before. Hm.] I don't think that's what Tu Vishan here is. He's just a regular looking turtle. Pointy face, large.

You've got people bending animals together?

["Bending" is the only way she can make sense of it. Not much science in Toph's world. So disturbed over here, and that doesn't happen easily.]
