[One man, reaching middle age with a wary expression on his face. Then he smirks - the smirk dissolves into a smile but those who are observant, very very observant - might be aware that the smile is not genuine. He runs a hand through his hair with something tucked under his arm.]

I was going to have today off anyway. You know. I get that I'm not dreaming and I get that I'm not going to be able to get back.

[At that, his eyes widen and there's a sense - especially to those of you who might be extra observant that this might be a good thing. Or an unusual thing. It's not something he's had time to process yet.

The expression goes dark.]

Which is pretty fucking rude if you don't mind my saying so. There any order to this spontaneous kidnapping people for riding on turtles sort of thing?

[he is betting no. however.] This would be the part where I flash my badge and introduce myself as Detective Hoffman.[He does so. One handed out of habit before realizing it and sticking it back in his pocket.] ...or indulge that habit and ask people if there's anything that I need to know about being here that's not in the welcoming committee.

...I'd appreciate any response.

[And the policeman turns off the feed and waits.]

A turtle, huh? [ ace sounds surprisingly calm for someone who has recently found themselves on a giant turtle. it's partially a product of the world he comes from, and partially the fact that he's been here for while by the time he's posting this. also, he's exhausted which helps with the avoiding public freak outs. ] Is it a Sea King, or something else? And does this place always make it feel like you've got Seastone on you?

[ it's not intended as a subtle way of finding out if anyone from his world around, but, hey. if it does that as well, that would be awesome. ]

Ah, I should probably introduce myself, shouldn't I? I'm Portgas D. Ace. It's nice to meet you all. [ a beat. ] So to speak, anyways.

I don't suppose anyone's seen an annoying rubber kid around. Kind of stupid, wears a straw hat, answers to Luffy? Or a giant man with a white mustache named Whitebeard? [ he's crossing his fingers and hoping the answer is no. ]

[ There is a blast of static before the video feed clicks on. The only elaborate thing he owned that stood out against all the drab issued-on-arrival furniture that dotted his bare as bones suite was a cherry wood desk. Laid out on its surface was a gutted and dissected glove that looks to be made of metal and snaking cords of copper. Even behind that white wood mask he looked displeased with whatever project lay the electric glove in pieces. ]

While experimenting with finding alternate power sources for these devices in the wake of yet another series of tragedies and misfortunes, I decided to turn my attention elsewhere. Not to arsenal but to my fellow foreigners.

The divide between those who possess preternatural and even god-like abilities and those who do not is wide, and I find this distressing. While we are all unequal in the eyes of the Emperor I believe she does wish us to be capable of standing on our own two feet whenever the next cataclysmic event occurs, or whenever the supposed apocalypse fires start.

Taking time away from my free clinic in the Earth sector I will start offering to teach those with little to no formal training in the basics of martial arts: specifically, chi-blocking and hand to hand, closed quarters combat. Without demonstration I can best describe chi-blocking to the uninformed as a school of martial arts that places emphasis on temporarily rendering muscle function useless and even dampening chi or energy based powers. If nothing else, those who feel defenceless can take some initiative.

Kyle Rayner has agreed to supply rooms at EA-3B for training a small number of students at a time so I won't be far from my clinic. In the meantime I hope to attract a small student body and cooperate with anyone here who has experience in close-quarters combat and/or martial arts. It would be best to introduce something so demanding and exact as chi-blocking slowly. A sort of teacher-student arrangement.

I will be taking names of interested foreigners and answering any questions through my personal console, or in person at my clinic.

It's entirely up to you, but I must insist you take up these lessons.

[The girl on the screen is tiny, likely barely more than 12. Her arms are folded across her chest, and her eyes, pale, seem to glare at the screen.]

[. . . Kind of. There’s also something a little off about that glare. It doesn’t quite seem to focus like a glare should.]

Okay, so whose bright idea was it to put dirt on some of the turtle shell, but not all of it? If you’re going to put dirt on a turtle in the first place, you should at least not be stupid about it and finish it off.

Also, what kind of turtle are we talking about here? Is this a turtle-duck, or a lion-turtle, or what? I tried to ask one of those kedan guys, but they wouldn’t tell me.

[A small smirk, highly self-satisfied.]

Guess they were still sore.

[She shrugs.] Anyway, name’s Toph for anyone who cares. You’ll learn it soon enough.
