Well it's certainly cool to have another dragon on Tu Vishan. That's so incredible that you can do that! Firebending is controlling or making fire through motions and concentration.

[Korra slams her fist into her palm and upon impact, flames burst from her hand and illuminate her face and the living room before dying away. Yes, she's very proud of her firebending, it's her bending of choice.]

On my homeworld, fire breathing dragons taught the first firebenders. Without them we would never have it. [Disappointment flickers across her face.] No one's seen a dragon for ages though since the Fire Nation eventually saw killing a dragon as some stupid badge of honor.

[When 4 year old Korra was told she's going to learn firebending and that dragons once taught it, she was sorely disappointed to find out there weren't any.]

[For her part, Iskierka looks delighted.]

Oh, that is famous! How long are you able to do it for?

I do not know if dragons in my world have taught humans anything; the ones in Britain do not like us very much, at all. If anyone should try and kill me I will certainly kill them first, I should think.

It's famous?? [Firebending is pretty common to Korra, so that's very weird to her indeed.]

I've never really tested myself. I think I've kept a strong blast going for about fifteen seconds or so? Usually gets the job done in less time.

[A frown tugs her lips down.] That's what made it so stupid. Some of the Fire Nation thought defeating a dragon that did fight back meant their firebending was stronger than a dragon's. Then again, the Fire Nation never really had a reputation for making good decisions until very recently.

[Dwelling on that doesn't last because she's talking to another dragon! Two in her lifetime!] My name's Korra! I can't believe I totally forgot to introduce myself.

Oh, I am sorry: it means very good.

[There's a slight twitch of her tail, there, but she doesn't comment much, save for:] Oh, my flame is much stronger than that, I am certain I would have no trouble defeating them.

I am called Iskierka.

They’d deserve it. [Seriously past Fire Nation generations, why did you ruin it so Korra could never meet dragons until she ended up slipping into the place between life and death? Unforgivable.]

Glad I’m famous then! [She laughs at the inside joke since she’s famous back home, the definition she’s familiar with anyway.] It’s really wonderful to meet you Iskierka!

Sorry, I don’t know much about dragons. [Thanks for that history.] What are the breeds from your world?

It is very good to meet you as well, of course.

[She settles in and gets comfortable.] There are many breeds, but I am a Kazilik, we are generally from Turkey. I serve in the British corps, however. Temeraire -- you said you have met him -- he is a Celestial dragon, from China.

Turkey? [Korra’s familiarity with Earth’s geography is practically non-existant. And Iskierka certainly certainly doesn’t look like a turkey-dragon…]

So you’re in an army? [”Celestial” isn’t the impression she got from meeting him.] So China is the heavens??

[Earth sure is weird…]

Yes: it is a country that borders Asia and Europe, but I only know I am from there, I hatched in a different country altogether.

[Oh look, she's preening again.] We are certainly much better than the army, they are very dull, and slow, and I do not care for their Wellesley at all.

No, of course it is not, it is a continent like any other. [Pfff what does she know about China, she's never been there.] He is, or was, at any rate, meant to be for the Imperial family, but he ended up in Britain in stead.

So you're exotic there too? [Special dragon, breathes fire, and has some sass. Yes, Korra is so adoring Iskierka with her eyes.]

Sorry, I don't know any of those places yet, my world only had four nations and none of them had names like that. There are some people from France, I think it's France, that are here.

[She raises an eyebrow as a thought comes to her.] I remember that Temeraire had a crew? Does that mean you do too?

[Korra couldn't see Iskierka tolerating that much.]

Yes, I know: I have met them. We are fighting against the French at home, but the sort here seem all right. For Frenchmen.

I do. [She droops a little, but so far Korra's adoration is keeping her spirits up.] My captain is not here, I do not think. If he were, he would have said. But he is called John Granby, and he is very fine indeed.

You’re the only one. [A statement that is comforting as Korra knows exactly what it feels like to have unique abilities.]

Maybe he’ll show up too! We get little waves of new foreigners showing up all the time. What started the war in the first place?

Why, Bonaparte was going about snatching up land that was not his to take.

Sounds like exactly what started the hundred year war back on my world. The Fire Nation wanted to expand, so they almost killed off the entire Air Nomads and tried to press into the Earth Kingdom.

So Bonaparte was the leader of the French army back home and you helped the British defend against him. [Just picturing Iskierka flying in the air raining fire down is too awesome an image for Korra keep just in her head.] You must have been incredible to watch!

...Wait, did the French have dragons too? [Because seriously, they wouldn't stand a chance otherwise, right?]

Certainly I was. [A small huff.] They do, yes.

Well I hope I can see you in the air at least once. Oh, are you immune to fire? [That would make sense to Korra, but nature is a fickle thing even in other worlds.]

Of course you might, whenever you wish it. [A considering look.] I believe so, yes.

[Korra does her best not to squee. Large creatures are one of her things.] I’ll hold you to that! [As if she had any intention not to.]

Well that’s good, don’t want you accidentally burning yourself. [And in Korra’s little daydream world, not get burned while she firebends. On a dragon. In the sky. Forgive the goofy smile she might have.]

Good, I wish to explore this place, and it is easiest to do so in the air.

Just don't go too high. People say there's a barrier up there. [She gives an apologetic shrug.] I don't know how high up it is or what it does. I've never been in the air here.

Would you like to go? I have no harness, but you might hold onto a spike, I suppose.

That would be SO COOL! [If she had a bucket list, this would be checked off so fast.] Don't worry about the harness. I could make one out of rock before taking off.

And root my legs to it so I don't fall off.

Then you could go as fast as you wanted.

We could totally fly anywhere, even roll through-

[Yeah, she started and kind of didn't stop. Korra quickly coughs into a closed hand to maintain at least some dignity.]
