[Since he and Lois created the radio Clark had felt little need to use the network. Clark Kent wasn't one to make announcements at whole and since his father had left the turtle the hassle of going to a public place to have an anonymous location had only made him... well, honestly it had made him kind of sad.

But he felt this needed to be discussed in a two-way channel. So Clark Kent looks slightly worried, with a set of notes by his hand.]

Those who know me might know I'm against the death penalty. I have always been, but since it's withing the law I have respected it. Or, I usually do.

[He worries his lower lip a bit, rereading the notes as if it would change what they said. They don't, like they haven't every single time he's checked.]

Some of you might remember Dust, that drug that has been causing some trouble in some neighborhoods in the turtle. Thanks to the efforts of some foreigners we see less and less of it lately, but it's still not been eradicated. In the cases where dealing with it has gotten someone killed, laws in this place dictate the sentence is death per murder.

Lately, Evandau has been carrying out said sentences. There's been at least four cases where he's personally killed the accused Kedan. Which is pretty weird in itself, considering he definitely has a lot of other things to worry about right now. [Weird and very uncomfortable to Clark, but not really worthy of bringing it to everyone's attention so quickly.]

But... well. I have reasons to believe that in some of those cases he's been carrying out that sentence even before they were proved guilty.

[And he ends the post with that sentence, letting it hang on the air.]

[ River is sitting on her bed opposite the console in her suite, the soft blues and greens of the Water Sector highlighting her. Even though it's obvious that she deliberately activated the video feed, it still takes her a moment to begin speaking. ]

I have a story.

"Once upon a time there was a Queen in her castle, who had a very strong Knight. But in a distant land there was a Dragon, and the Dragon was even stronger and cruel, and the Queen worried about it coming to the castle and eating all the people who lived there. One day she said to the Knight, I will teach you how to battle the Dragon, so if it comes to our land you can protect all the people.

But the Knight refused and claimed that no one could fight the Dragon, and so they should send all the people away. The Queen was very angry, because she wanted the people to be safe. It is a terrible Dragon, she said. You must learn how to protect the people from it. But still the Knight refused. The Queen asked, don't you want to protect the people? And the Knight said, if you were a good Queen, you would fight.

One day the Queen died and the Dragon came but the Knight didn't send the people away. He didn't fight and he didn't send all the people away. The Queen is dead, long live the Knight."

[ River frowns very pensively at the screen for a moment, as if silently repeating to herself her own story. Finally she asks: ]

Which one is the terrible one?

[Behind Luke is an organic-looking wooden wall, possibly recognizable as part of the console alcove in one of the Wood sector suites. He's evidently settled into his new quarters and it didn't take him long to figure out the technology of the console.

It's a bit archaic compared to what he's used to but it's simple enough. He would fiddle with it and see if he can give it an upgrade but he's been warned about the anti-tampering system in place, so he won't. For now.]

Hello. My name is Luke. [He intentionally leaves out his last name. Luke has no idea who he might meet here and his family's name has become associated with a lot of unpleasant things as of late. Better to be safe.] I've just arrived a couple weeks ago and the map of the city that I was given is helpful but not quite what I need at the moment. I want to ask if anyone takes regular trips up to the turtle's head and wouldn't mind a travel companion. It sounds like a place I'd like to visit soon.

I'd also like to offer my services. Where I come from I'm a guardian of the peace. Not necessarily affiliated with any government or law force... freelance, if you will. I help because I can. Please, call on me any time.

[Now that his powers have returned and he's had a few healing sessions Luke feels in much better sorts to be offering such services without hesitation at his own abilities.]

Turtle. I mean. Big turtle.

[This isn't really making a good impression, is it? Okay deep breath:]

Okay, we're fighting a war, I get that. That's great. [...] Uh, it's not great as in hooray, but... Wherever I need to be, I'm there. Let's go punch this Mmmuhhh...

You know who in the face.

But, in the meantime, what exactly am I supposed to do with this?

[Stiles appears on the feed, after giving his console a good solid thumping. He's peering into it like he can see right through the screen, trying to fix the unfixable. There's one momentary ghosting, a doubling of his image, but then it stabilizes.]

Hah! Percussive maintenance saves the day again.

Okay, got some stuff to talk about, and I can't give three ripping farts as to who or what is listening, so suck it. I'm gonna start making, like, World War Two style propaganda posters and sticking them up all over the place. Victory Gardens and War Bonds, guys. Let's make it happen. Bonus points if we can all dress like Gene Kelly and Ginger Rogers for the duration.

One! Late Memorial Day barbecue. Bring your own grilling goods, communal shared style. Pot luck style. Low on food so let's all share style. Thanks to Darcy for coming up with the idea, seriously, that girl is super awesome smart. And appropriate theme, because Jesus Harry Christ on a bouncing kangaroo, memorials all over.

Two! Had a really interesting dream last night involving a little boy, named Rio'era. Aaaaaand I've been led to understand this is a thing? Anybody else having weird dreams about little kids popping up and giggling a bit at you? Because wow it's borderline creepy. More than borderline, if I'm one hundred percent honest.

Three! Who put the ram in the ramalama ding dong?

Important question for the ages.

[Another day, another morning of having to ration her tea and breakfast. Of residual smoke lingering in the air from the explosions that had gone off down the street. Of the near radio silence and informational uncertainty that came with it. Of having to stare at the ugly remodeled palace and remember that, whatever was inside it, it had been enough to scare certain people into staying as far away as possible.]

[There was something particularly special about this day, however...or, at least, there was supposed to be.]

[The good news was that Zatanna seemed to be feeling a lot better. You'd never know from her expression, though, as she stared dully into the camera for a fleeting moment, before calmly holding up a sign (in English):]

[It was a lovely day for a Network Post, wouldn't you agree, residents of Keelai? The sun was shining...the tank was clean...and Zatanna was sitting in front of a public console with the brightest smile she'd worn in a long time. Cheesy, at first, and definitely purposely over-the-top (her boss had clearly put her up to this, and she clearly was going along with it for giggles), but even as time went on and it melted away into something more genuine, her aura continued to project sheer happiness at life, the universe, and everything.  For now.]

[Although the casual onlooker might be more interested in the unusual
outfit she was wearing. Which she very deliberately paired off with her favorite charmed choker, not even caring that it didn't match the rest of the ensemble.]

Do you know what the Future Holds? ...that's okay, neither do I. But together, we can probably managed to squeeze a few hints out of it...with these.

[Smirking, she held up one hand, then flicked her wrist in such a way that a deck of cards appeared in hand. Magically.]

[Of course, those who knew her spells well enough would recognize the fact that she hadn't uttered a single backwards word. The trick was legitimate sleight-of-hand. No cheating.]

I don't quite understand it but...I think I was sent back home and then returned here. I wasn't aware that kind of thing could happen but apparently it can. It's strange. There doesn't even feel like there's a gap in my memory. I'm not even quite sure how long I was..."gone". Although, would it even be considered "returning home"? I'm not sure how you would phrase what it is.

[She waves the thought off and changes her focus to something a little more important] That's not the point. If I worried anyone I previously spoke to, I'm sorry. It wasn't my intention. Have I missed much? [She pauses again, looking conflicted and then manages a small smile. The public video shuts off then and switches over to a private one intended for just Arthur and Kaldur. But I need something more. I'm looking for training partners. [And here she turns more serious, hands on her hips and an intense look on her face.]

And I mean partners. I'm not really interested in training rookies, I'm looking for people who can hold their own. You have metahuman powers, you use them; if you don't, then we only hold back enough to make sure you don't break anything important. I've got and training in several different martial arts, but I've been slacking, and I'm sick of it, and I need to get back on track.

If anyone's up for it... [she pauses for a second there, because her teammates back home sure wouldn't have volunteered for training. But it's a wider audience she's pitching to, so maybe she'll find someone] If anyone's up for it, we'd mostly be figuring out workouts together, doing them together, and sparring.

Still, Tim knows at least how find if he has any allies in this unknown city - virtual world or not.]

Well. That was a pretty rude awakening. I'm not used to waking in the tub surrounded by strangers. I mean, sure the tour of the city was different and the welcome pamphlet is a nice touch. But I'm not a huge fan of waking up in some fantasy movie and being told I'm going to fight some big bad evil. I'm not really the hero type.

If you’re interested in lessons, get in touch with me here or privately. I don't know how much lessons are going to be yet, but I'll try to keep it low.

[It was around two hours after sunrise when it happened.]

[Zatanna had been up early, as usual, and through her usual morning routine. A stroll through the sector. Stopping off at her favorite cafe for a cup of tea. Waving at a few other regulars in the area. Checking the rooftops...just in case.]

[By the time she made it back to her room, she was in good spirits. The weather was chilly, but she didn't mind. It actually felt pretty good. Hanging her jacket up, she absently rubbed at her arms as she grabbed one of the books she had been reading and settled on her living room couch. Head against the arm rest. Feet propped up over the back. She was about halfway through. Impressive, considering she could only actually read a handful of the words.]

[She turned the page, and sat upright.]

[Huh. This one was actually...interesting. The circles in the diagram were familiar. She'd used something similar to help the younger Robin with his slug problem some time back. And the words written underneath...]

[She tried to read them aloud. Nothing happened. Then, on a whim, she tried them backwards.]

[The last of the words barely left her lips when a sudden gust of wind burst from the very pages, throwing her back. Like a silent sonic boom. Spreading far and wide. Beyond the walls of her apartment. It knocked the wind out of her, but only for a moment. She recovered soon after, holding a hand to her head as she slowly got up.]

First of all, sorry. I know you must be tired of all these 'oh no we've lost our powers what do' posts if you didn't have any powers to begin with but it is kind of a big deal. And we don't even know how long it will last. So.

Yeah.

[Deep breath, exhale]

Alright so, we're focusing on training without powers and stuff- which is an awesome idea, and I offer my help to anyone who would take training from a teenager.

But maybe we should also be wondering why? Is it really because the turtle is sick or is... someone [hint hint]... trying to make us as vulnerable as possible? If that's the case we should really be getting ready for an attack.
