Wow, that sounds like a name from my world. Thanks Inara, that would really impress Bean! Are you from the China on everyone else’s Earth or somewhere else?

I'm from a place called Sihnon, which is far away from Earth that was.

Away from Earth? Like the planet Earth? [Inara, you can't just casually blow the mind of a seventeen year old girl without consequences.] How is that even possible?

Yes, the planet Earth. [ She smiles a little, even if it can't be seen. ]

You do not have space ships in your time, I assume?

[Korra shakes her head slowly, the look of absolute astonishment staying completely intact.]

Are there aliens with like, five arms out there?

[ Inara laughs a little. ]

No, no. All human -- we just...moved, I suppose.

But why move? [This concept is way too much for Korra to comprehend, especially since her bending is so deeply rooted to the world.] What are other planets like?

Earth had become inhabitable -- too many people. It couldn't sustain our numbers, and all of the resources were used up. So we left, and moved to another system. There are many planets now that are inhabited by humans; after terraforming them, they became livable.

Earth is just a black rock now, floating in space.

That sounds awful...

[Her tone is a little dry and strained. Too much, and she coughs to clear it up.]

So what about getting food and supplies? I mean is there even money anymore, or is it just bartering and trades?

It was a very long time ago. [ She smiles. ] No one alive remembers Earth. It is not nearly so bad as it sounds.

There is both. Where there is humanity there will always be some sort of currency, it seems. The Core planets tend to be wealthier and the government much stricter. When you go further out into the system, the planets tend to govern themselves.

It’s- [’still just as bad because the planet is still dead.’ almost comes out of Korra’s mouth, but she manages to not dwell on the topic.] good that people managed to survive.

Wow, still the same out in space? In my world Republic City is pretty much the center of society and there’s more money there with a pretty tight government too. Further you go up/down to either of the Water Tribes, they have their own systems.

What did you do before you came to Tu Vishan?

[ ah now that's the million dollar question. Inara chooses her words carefully. ]

I did a lot of traveling. I rented a shuttle on a cargo space craft; where they went, I did as well. I wanted to see the universe, that seemed like the best way to go about it.

Oh, so you’re a traveler too! Well I shouldn’t say that I am just yet. That’s kind of what I’m supposed to end up doing back home. Only, just on the planet. Not space.

With friends along though, it must have been fun. You did rent from friends, right?

I was with friends, yes. The crew of the ship actually became a bit more like family.

[Korra’s smile might be evident in her tone.] I had friends that were starting to feel like family back home. So did you guys have weird machines that made food and water on the ship or did you have to grow it yourself?

Actually, it was mostly protein. [ She smiles dryly. ] Not very appetizing, but it did the job.

Wow, that does sound blah-bland. If you ever want some Southern Water Tribe style grilled fish I'd be happy to give you some! [And she is hoping that Inara is having tastier foods now, because that stuff just sounds like it could bore one's taste buds to the point where they just jump out of your mouth.]

So what do you do now that you're on Tu Vishan? [Traveling here was limited to pretty much the city, palace, and the head of the turtle itself.]

That would be wonderful, actually. I'd love to taste it. [ because she's finding that all of the foreigners have so many different things to offer in both culture and cuisine. It's a fantastically beautiful melting pot. ]

You mean besides sampling the culinary delights? [ When, you know. Rations aren't making things so tight. ]

I partake in many activities; I try and experience all that I can, while here. Did you know there is a tiny little tea shop in the fire sector that serves a wonderful herbal blend unlike anything you've ever tasted?

Okay! I’ll make sure it’s a fresh catch. I don’t want to butt into your tutoring schedule without at least giving you something, you know?

[An actual tea shop sounded rather appealing to Korra since most of the ones in the Metal Sector tasted artificial.] Really? I didn’t think there were any, but I’ve only been to the Fire Sector twice and it was just to visit friends. Everything’s kind of expensive there, isn’t it?

[Was she sounding like a cheap skate? Because really she’s just not too used to having spending cash.] Either way, I’d like to visit. I mean do have money. [Doing her best to not sound like the broke Avatar she’s always been.] Finnick wasn’t kidding about paying me for fishing, it’s just kinda new. Having juulan.

[There was a pause and Korra’s voice has that of comprehension in it.] Oh, so you work at the tea shop.

[That’s why she brought it up, right? Of course. Tutoring was obviously a side job.] I’d be happy to learn there!

[ Korra you go a million miles a minute, you really remind Inara of Kaylee in a way. ]

I did work at one, yes. [ But, you know. Not anymore. ] And it's not as expensive as one might think; if you like, I'll take you there sometime. My treat.

You’re on! [Free tea and English lessons? Lucky Korra felt lucky.]

I’ll bring my notes if you want to go over them. [First things she’s written in English. They’re almost legible.] Um, do I have to wear anything nice?

[Places in the Fire Sector seemed too upper class for her usual clothes.]

That would be perfect. And no...wear whatever you see fit.

[ They are, but she'll have Inara with her. She gets on well enough with the kedan. ]

Alright! I can go whenever you have a day available. [Currently Inara is Korra’s favorite human on the turtle.]

Perfect. I tend to be more available in the afternoon, if that's alright with you?

Sure, I can be around then! We can meet wherever’s best for you.
