[ The image of a rather ordinary, unremarkable looking man fills the screen. He’s clean-shaven, wearing a pair of black-framed glasses, and he’s got brown hair, cut short and though it’s a little messy, there’s something about it that suggests that it had been styled at one point earlier in the day. He’s just slightly disheveled, which those familiar with the comings and goings of individuals to Keeliai might recognize as a sign of a new arrival. ]

So this is… [ There’s a moment of silence, as he trails off and glances away from the camera. ] …different.

[ It only lasts for a second, before he looks back and rolls his eyes. ]

The whole—I mean, well… Whatever.

[ He takes a deep breath, lets it out, and pulls himself together. ]

Right, okay. I was given a place to live but no job, and I’m guessing that it isn’t free rent forever. So if there’s, I don’t know, a job center? Help wanted ads? Some turtle world version of Craigslist? Something? Could someone point me in the right direction?

[Bruce is a casual stalker in that he tends to unapologetically read other people's public conversations on the network. Not aggressively, but out of an inescapable, lingering paranoia. He especially does it when it's new people who haven't introduced themselves.

So while this is a fairly innocuous first post, he reads that thread with Inara and has to stop and stare at the screen for a second at the name. The thing is, it's entirely too possible that it's exactly who he thinks it is, based on how many people keep recognizing Bruce here. Bruce doesn't watch nearly enough news (or care nearly enough) to recognize Justin by face or voice, but by name...]

You said you're... [Let's just make sure he's got this right.] Like Hammer Industries?

[ Whether it's of himself or his company, recognition is the last thing Justin's expecting. Especially from a guy he himself has never seen before. Or at least, he doesn't think he's seen him before. He squints at the screen, trying and failing to place him.

A few years ago, he would have automatically taken it as a compliment. Now, he's half afraid that this guy, whoever he is, is someone who's seen too much old news footage from the Expo. ]

Yeah, that's—that's exactly what it's like. Are you from home? New York?

Home, maybe. New York, not yet.

[He knows he's being antagonistically vague and can't help it, because the amount of fondness he has for military weapons suppliers is exactly zero. Bruce has familiarized himself with as much of the tech put up against him as he could, and he doesn't even try not to be resentful.

It's that sense of automatic resentment that prevents him from introducing himself like would be polite. Though he's still speaking mildly, nothing more than disgruntled as he folds his arms and leans back in his chair to look into the camera.]

Does the word Avengers mean anything to you? And if it does, who's in it? [That's probably the quickest way to tell and cut through all this nonsense about other worlds. Even if Bruce is, inside, snarking to himself about using his supposed future superhero team as a gauge for anything.]

[ Opening his mouth to correct her, Justin pauses, momentarily taken aback by how attractive she is. Why is she talking to him? ]

Oh, you may find it difficult, given current relations with the kedan, but there are some foreigners here who are happy to offer work to new arrivals: there is Bruce Wayne, for one, and Tony Stark, for another. I am told they pay very well, in comparison to a great many other employers in the city.

[ The momentary enthusiasm Justin feels at learning that there are people willing to help new arrivals is summarily dashed when he hears those two dreaded words strung together into one horrible name: Tony Stark. ]

Oh. Well. That's... That's great!

[ And maybe it would be convincing if he didn't sound like he had suddenly taken ill. ]

Some of the other foreigners are hiring, but no, there's no job placement. The locals would rather we don't work, which fits with the rationing system that's going on right now. One they probably failed to mention.

Wait, rationing system? No one said anything about rationing. Is there—Why is there a rationing system in place? Is there a war?

As I understand it, the lodgings are ours for the duration of our stay, but a few hours work per day is mandatory, and necessary for food, clothing, and other such things.

[She's new as well and...stalking his conversations to see if he gets any good leads on work.]

[ Maybe he is dead after all. This is turning out to be some kind of hot chick heaven. And obviously someone made a mistake by letting him in. ]

A few hours? Actually a few or is a day more than twenty-four hours here?

[ It's a world on a turtle. At this point, he really wouldn't be surprised by anything. ]

Why's everyone jumping straight to finding jobs? Why not try volunteering to just...I dunno, help out?

[She's making conversation just for the sake of it at this point, chin resting in the palm of her hand and a small smile on her face.]

Well, that's what the guy said. After the whole "here's your place, settle in because you're not going home any time soon" speech. I'm just...

[ He shrugs, frowning slightly, wondering if he's already made a social blunder on his first day. ]

Don't get me wrong, if someone needs help, I'll help.

First day, huh? Looks like foreigners come in waves.

[Yes, she's talking with her mouth full of stew from the bowl in front of her. Pointing her spoon at him, she continues:]

You'll get used to being on the big guy. A job is another thing entirely. If you're lucky maybe you can find employment with the local kedan, but odds are you're better off with one of the other foreigners. I work for Finnick's fishing business and he might still be hiring if you've got sea legs.

[Didn't really look like the outdoor type from what Korra could make of him. Yeah, she's kinda basing that on his wiry frame, style of dress, and tone of voice.]

Sea legs? You mean like sailing? I've been on some cruise ships before, but that's probably not what you mean, is it?

[ Watching her eat, he's reminded of sitting across a table from Ivan Vanko, watching him make a mess of the gourmet meal Jack had so carefully prepared for him. It's not a pleasant memory and he pushes it aside.

At her introduction, he smiles. ]

Justin Hammer. It's a pleasure to meet you.

[After everything that's happened in the past few days Pepper is ready to get back to business as usual. Then she's presented with the man she oh so recently helped send to jail. Pepper's jaw gapes open in unabashed shock. What is he doing here? Why is he here? Didn't they have enough trouble without bringing a no account, cheating, thieving JERK onto this turtle?

There is absolutely no way that Pepper is going to offer him a job with Stark Industries. She knows it's all hands on deck, but those hands need to be competent and trustworthy. Sure Hammer Industries is good for some things, but their development and field testing as well as almost anything when it comes to the big things needs everything to be desired. Besides, the man is now an escaped convict (Yes, she's counting being pulled into another world and living on the back of a giant turtle as escaping from jail). Let Bruce Wayne or ... anyone else deal with him. She refuses to let him anywhere near Stark Industries.]

[Unfortunately for Pepper, logic always wins out in the end. It's not a big turtle and Justin is in the same business they are. He'll see they're there eventually (If their office building hasn't clued him in already). Besides, she knows Tony will come heckling the first chance he gets. It's better to just get this over with.

But she doesn't have to be nice about it.

When she finally turns on the video her arms are crossed and she is making it very clear that she neither trusts nor is pleased that he's here.]

[ Justin's a science minded guy. Until recently, he didn't believe in things like magic or mysticism. Asgardians gods have started to change that. Arriving here is changing it even more.

He hears the voice all right, but the video seems broken, flickering in and out without really letting him see anything but background. ]

Well, I mean, this has to seem ordinary for someone, right? Not for me, obviously. I'm from Earth. We don't have turtles this big on Earth. Or dimensional problems. But if anything's possible...
