As some of you may know, I was hired to find the person responsible for multiple killings in September, along with an attempted homicide. That person has now killed the Emperor. [ There's a flash of something like remorse, but it only lasts a second before her jaw tightens. There's no time to feel guilty for not catching the person sooner. She has to stop him now, before he kills again. ]

I have a list of suspects. I've narrowed it down significantly. If you were one of the people I talked to about it, please see me immediately.

[ The message is simple, one she can essentially cut-and-paste to each person. It's short, but far from sweet. She doubts they'll appreciate it. If the killer is killing again, then they have to move to catch him, and quickly. So screw pleasantries. ]

Get in touch with me as soon as possible.

[ Sharon looks tired. She doesn't want to have this conversation, but it's part of the job. The horrible thing is, Barry seems like a nice guy. A good guy. But that doesn't mean he can't be a killer. ]

Barry, I hate to ask this, but do you have an alibi for the time when the Emperor was killed, and is there anyone who can verify it?

[ She's there as soon as she can be, knocking on the door three times with her knuckles. She's not suited up, but she has her Stings on under her sleeves; not because she doesn't trust Sharon, but because the closer they get to finding out who did the crime, the more desperate the suspect was likely to get. It was the same reason she had a knife stashed in her boot, and another in a sheathe at the small of her back. Natasha never left unprepared. ]

[ Sharon answers, a hand of the hilt of her knife at her thigh. She glances at Natasha, but she checks to see if anyone else is around before relaxing and moving aside to let Natasha in.

She leads Natasha to her bedroom and nods to the wall. ]

I'm still working on talking to people, but this is what we're down to.

Any thoughts?

[ Natasha follows Sharon, crossing her arms and coming to stand in front of the wall, taking in the information. The lack of it makes her frown, but what they do have is interesting. She nods towards the list of names. ] The ones who haven't responded -- are we sure they're even still here?

Yes. I've been keeping an eye on the network. None of them have been reported missing, but all have responded to communications or made communications over the network in the past month.

I'm confident I can have the list of suspects down to ten by the end of the week.

Which would you rather do? Keep clearing people or start working on the strongest suspects?

[ Sharon wants to start working on the strongest suspects, personally, but she's curious as to what Natasha - this Natasha - will answer with. ]

[ She has an idea of what the second would entail, and she glances at Sharon out of the corner of her eye, before looking back at the wall. ] No reason why it can't be the same thing. Give me two or three of the stronger ones, and I'll work on clearing everyone else. [ She turns to Sharon this time. ] It'll be easier if we divide them up, and we'll be less likely to miss things.

We've got Monet from X-Factor working on clearing people, too. She's going to arrange a time to talk to Hannibal Lecter.

[ She frowns at the sheets of paper for several seconds, and then it occurs to her that Natasha - this Natasha - might not know what X-Factor is. ]

X-Factor is a private investigators' group comprised of mutants. Monet seems experienced enough that I trust her with this.

The two strongest suspects are Hannibal and Costigan. Balthazar is also being... less than forthcoming. Can you work on the latter two? By the time you're done, I should have more for you.

[ Natasha blinks at the word mutants, but there are more pressing matters at hand. She'll ask about it later. She gives Sharon a curt nod. ] Sounds good. Give me what you have.

[ She doesn't have much, mostly notes from conversations the suspects have had on the network. Sharon might need to get out more. ]

I'll try to have more soon, now that I've got more of a focus.

[ Sharon doesn't like apologizing. That statement right there is as close as she's gotten in a long, long time. ]

[ Natasha tucks it under her arm. ] Honestly, I'm impressed you have this much. Doing this kind of thing in a place you aren't familiar with is difficult.

Having a network where some people tend to overshare helps. Most of the time, I just have to verify what I find.

[ She's impressed, and chiding herself, mentally, for being surprised about it. Regardless of universe, this is Sharon Carter. Natasha should expect no less than the best. ]

[ For a moment, it feels like it used to, with her Natasha. She smothers the feeling quickly. Confusing this Natasha with her own will only hurt, if not get people hurt. Just because they look the same doesn't mean they are the same.

She gives a nod. ]
