There's a lot of things I've learned to just accept since I've been here. A magic bottle with the personification of death inside it is something that I can live with. What really confuses is me is how my dog ended up inside it and who put him there.

[At that moment there's a bark and Hawke's notch-eared mabari pushes his way into the feed, examining the strange thing that Hawke appears to be talking to. Hawke's hand falls to Notch's head as he pats the dog's head.]

Don't get me wrong, I love having him back, but answers are always nice.

[So would knowing that his dog isn't actually possessed by whatever corruption was in the bottle.]

At least the trip was fun enough. We should plan another one soon. Maybe this time without a dragon the size of a mountain, or the swamp. I'm thinking a chateau overlooking a lake.

I haven't got a clue what an elephant is but I'm going to assume that it's as weird as any of this.

[Hawke doesn't have a clue any more than Enjolras does.]

Something with good food and even better drink would be good.

A rather large animal at that.

[It's not worth explaining beyond that, really.]

But rather strange to be found here, yes.

Oh I LIKE the way you think. I feel as if I've not had proper coffee since I've been here. One adjusts, but even so.

Large and weird, honestly it sounds like it would fit right in here then.

[Hawke smirks.]

What a happy coincidence, I like the way I think too. Frankly I'd like to have anything that's not fish at the moment. The taste has been in my mouth for days.

[And Enjolras is laughing, a little there.]

I grew up by the sea. I know that feeling entirely too well. They claim a sort of nostalgia can appear but I think I would be happy never to see fish again myself.

My city for some chicken, or pork. Anything that doesn't have any gills.

I WOULD like to see something meatlike that is not some sort of local variety of animal. It IS incredibly picky of me, I admit, but I WOULD rather meat that I am familiar with for once, instead of guessing.

The guessing game is always fun until you bite into something you're sure went bad months ago.

[Like most Orlesian he's ever had.]

Maybe bill the Emperor for it next time he wants you to do something.

[Right, Enjolras is laughing at the very THOUGHT of that. Not that it is not appealing.]

THERE is an idea. I wonder if that might WORK. After visiting the bottle, one might THINK.

Every army gets paid in something right?

They do at that, unless unwillingly conscripted. I wonder if negotiations of some sort are in order.

[Oh crap, Hawke. Now look what you made him do.]

[Hawke's always causing more trouble.]

Let it be known that I'll risk my life for nothing less than a turkey dinner.

[He sounds utterly serious. Notch lets out a low whine, pawing at Hawke's leg.]

And my dog needs a slab of ham.

[The mabari gives a tremendous bark of approval.]

[It makes life interesting, at least? That's something. At any rate, Enjolras is pausing a moment to note this.]

And would you be willing to put your name to this, should I take a survey and compile a document of things that we would prefer here? Your dog will have to simply be included there I fear, though his input IS noted.

[Well Hawke didn't expect this to be a thing that actually happened but what the hell, he's not the type to turn his back on something he started, inadvertently or not.]

The things a man has to do for a bit of variety in his life, alright.

[Of course that doesn't mean he's going to take this particularly seriously either.]

I've no idea if this might get off the ground or not, or cause more trouble than it is worth but...

I suppose it is what I DO.

[That's offered with a bit of a shrug.]

And at least the attempt may be made if I might find enough people to support it.

Do what? Sign petitions or try get better food service?

[Hawke smirks. Yeah he's being a pest again.]

Facilitate petitions, demonstrations, riots, and write about the issues in a way to draw others over.

[Have a small smirk back. It's infectious, clearly.]

Food service WAS an area of concern for many where I come from.

Maker, it's a shame I didn't have you around in Kirkwall. You could have written all my letters for me.

And you in Paris would have been formidable as well.

I'm sure I couldn't have done much worse there as I could in Kirkwall.

Rather well, I should think, at that.

Of course, that depends on the damage done there, you know.

Kirkwall has caught fire twice since I've lived there.

[And one of those times was kinda sorta his fault.]

If your Paris can stand that kind of excitement though I may give it a visit.

Two years ago, there were riots and barricades in the streets. We very nearly overthrew the king. We DID cause one to run away.

[If he seems proud, well. The people had earned that.]

We tried again, which is what brought most of us from my home here, dying in that attempt, last summer. I think we might have used the sort of support and skill you bring along.

Sounds like a party alright.

[Hawke's not sure if Enjolras really would have wanted him there. One of his dearest friends is a guardswoman. If she was involved in something like that, well...]

Your faith in me is flattering. By all means keep it up.

[Considering all the guardsmen Enjolras killed? Yeah, that's probably a conflict of interest right there.]

Well, when one sees a value and a skill in someone...they ought to point it out right then. I may have learned that the hard way but it IS still true.
