004 || Video + Action

[His tone is clipped and his expression blank.]

If anyone can confirm the whereabouts of Dr. Bruce Banner, Agent Phil Coulson, or Howard Stark, please get in touch with me or one of my associates.

[A pause, and he tries to gentle his tone at least a little. It doesn't work especially well.]

A... dubious welcome to those of you joining us. If there's anything you need help with - [Strength because strength is what's needed. Emotion is not his friend right now.] I'm Captain Steve Rogers. I'll help as I can.

For those who come to his apartment/OTA )

[text]

I know some of you must have experience dealing with ghosts or spirits or whatever these are. I don't, and I'd rather not invite the locals into my space.

I will pay anyone who can get these things out of my suite or tell me how to do it myself. Preferably in time for me to get some sleep tonight.

[Annabeth! Looking contemplative and a little distracted, like her mind is thinking a million things at once.]

Has anyone else tried... talking to the ghosts? They've been pretty reactionary to me so far, limited responses and the like, and I've been assuming that's the case across the board.

[There's the sound of a chair being moved, and she looks pointedly annoyed at something off screen for a moment, then comes back and purses her lips.] The one here's more annoying than anything else.

[A sigh and she blows air up at some of the hair in her face.] Also, the kedan keep talking about making landfall soon. I've been asked to pick up some things, but I was wondering what people might have heard about the land itself? I've gotten a little of the general layout already, and where to look for certain resources, though I'm sure there's more to it, and maybe they all know different pieces or things about it.

[Ghosts. At first, Hellboy's not all that surprised by them. Over the last few years he's spent plenty of time with ghosts. When he's alone, it's kind of nice to have that kind of company again. Ghosts don't care much about the future, only the past. No speculating, no worrying over what's gonna happen next. It's strangely relaxing.

So over the last few days, when he's not checking up on Liz, he's found himself some new pals. He keeps to himself. They play cards, he drinks, tells old stories, and they come and go as ghosts tend to do.

It's not until he gets a chance to do some roaming around Keeliai does he realize how widespread the haunting really was.

It's a little unsettling, to say the least. He's pretty used to this kind of thing, but ghosts don't usually appear this solidly and in this great a number. Not unless something especially big and nasty came around to stir them up. Though if what they say about this place is true--about it existing somewhere between life, dreaming and death--maybe it's not that rare.]

Guess we've got ourselves a ghost problem. They seem pretty harmless, but if anyone has any trouble, I know a few ways of getting rid of them.

And don't waste your time with the guys in the masks. I think they're just out to make a buck.

[That pissed him off a little. Earlier he had seen a guy with a ridiculous mustache claiming to be an "expert" try to chase an especially irritated poltergeist out of a florist shop by banging pans together and doing some kind of crazy Macarena. And he tried to charge ten juulan for it. That was just painful.]

video;

[It's Yelena, here with a quick question. She has a somewhat harried look about her, and she doesn't look like she's slept well with the bags under her eyes, but it doesn't make her any less alert.

That might be because of the coffee-like drink she's enjoying at one of the cafes in the Wood sector, but it's not what she's here to talk about.]

Just to be sure, no one has noticed any ghosts of people who aren't from Keeliai, right? That is, spirits of people who are definitely from their worlds instead of here, for instance?
imlikeabird: ([ ✘ ] Damnit quit breaking Hawke)

[ video ]

[As a mage, Hawke has and always will be a target. When he sleeps, he goes to this place called the Fade and while he's there, it's like he's wearing a neon flashing sign that says 'come get me!' Spirits of all shapes and sizes and affinities are looking to invade his brain and use him as their vessel into the mortal world. It's one of the reasons mages are put up in the Circle in Thedas.

The point is that Hawke is sort of sensitive to these kinds of things.

He didn't sleep well last night. Something kept banging on the walls. And when he finally gets up, he finds some of his possession smashed or moved from their various places around his suite, he's more than a little wary. Spirits slipping through the Veil weren't the friendliest bunch. At least he hasn't encountered any.]

All right, which one of you tore open the Veil?

[OH HEY IT'S STEVE in full-on Captain America battledress.]

As I'm sure many of you are aware, we'll be making landfall soon - and it sounds like we'll need intervening time to prepare. I'm going to take a survey team out, see what we can find, collect some things that the kedan have requested. I'd be willing also to get soil samples and whatever else the scientists here from... off-turtle? Off-world?

[A small smile and he refocuses on the transmission.] In any case. I'll be putting together supplies for a team of no more than six, myself included, for a ten-day span in rough terrain. Five days out, five day return. It will not be pleasant and it will be dangerous.

[He pauses.] A few of you already know you'll be coming with me. [PEGGY, BUCKY, HE'S LOOKING AT YOU.] I'm prepared to take volunteers or recommendations.

Miss Favrielle, I hoped we might talk about protective clothing for the trip. I know it's short-notice, but I'm capable of compensating you.

video; oo1

[At first, there's no image coming up on screen. Just the sound of some keys being pushed, a voice muttering, and the sounds of fabric and skin being rubbed over the microphone and- ah, there. A video flickering on, revealing an extreme close-up of an extremely unhappy man. Well, at least he looks unhappy. And rumpled. Like, say, he'd just been fished out of the ocean and told he's in some between worlds land of the dead place. That kind of unhappy.]

Alright, look here. [Oh, yeah, he's pissed.] I don't know what you people here are thinking, but landing on the back of some turtle in the middle of some spirit world doesn't really pass as normal back home.

[He leans back a little, narrowing his eyes at the screen in front of him.]

If I'm to actually believe this isn't some sort of scam or elaborate, drug induced plot, I'm guessing I'm here for the long haul, huh? Living on the back of a turtle.

[He scoffs, but the anger is fading back a bit, as it has been the more the looks around at this place, sharp eyes picking up sights of things that seem like something straight out of his imagination. Hell, the console in front of him is enough to have him almost thoroughly distracted.]

Right, well, cut a new fella a break, would ya, Keeliai? Could use a drink and a bit of a run down on the tech you're working with, here.

[video] rin-style PSA

[Rin is in his suite, nursing a cup of tea and frowning at the console as if it personally insulted him. Underneath that he looks vaguely worried, though.]

Oi, has anyone seen Merle lately? She's basically like a catgirl--you know, tail and cat ears and everything? She lives in the Earth Sector, I think...

[He trails off, staring at his tea for awhile before he blinks, seeming to remember something.]

Oh, there was something I wanted to tell you guys. I was gonna say something sooner, but then all this crap happened and the storm, so...anyway, in case you don't know or were wondering? The Emperor is the one who brought us here. Yeah! It's all her fault that we're stuck here. It wasn't the turtle or anything we did, it was all her. She says we're here for some kind of purpose, but she didn't even tell me what that was! Not even a hint!

...So yeah. That's all I wanted to say.

[Stephanie comes onto the network a la video and she looks tired, bedraggled, and kind of like hell in her flannel shirt and still damp jeans.]

Hi. Stephanie here. [She wrings her hair a little.]

That was an experience I never, ever want to repeat.  [Ever.]

Why the ocean? Couldn’t it have been a freshwater lake? At least that way, I wouldn’t feel like a too salty piece of beef jerky, though I guess then you run the risk of leeches and other watery vermin. [She needed a shower, bad, but she had some questions first. It wasn’t unordinary for her to shunt personal hygiene to the side for at least a few minutes when there were answers that could be sniffed out.]

And, why a coma? Anybody have any answers? Those guys that ‘saved’ me were kind of vague. I’ll buy coffee – if they have it here and God I hope they do – for anyone that can help me out.

[Or at least, she will until her money runs out, anyway.]

video;

[Time for a video post from yours truly.]

This may have been asked before but, what level of technology does everyone have where they're from? The more I've talked to people the more I've realized that where I'm from is...well, it's really far behind everyone else. Or at least it seems like it.

What sort of technology is normal in your world? Things that aren't powered by magic, that is.

[She is kinda sorta really curious, but anyone who answers had better be prepared to explain it in simple terms because no one has even discovered electricity yet in Ixia or Sitia. Heated baths? A luxury found only in the Commander's castle.

Y E P.]

[text - anonymous]

[Ugh. Peter hunches over the console feeling as though all the eyes in the world were upon him. In truth there's a wall and a closed door between him and the rest of the world; kind of nice, their private and anonymous chat rooms actually seemed to make the effort to be exactly that.

He's not sure what exactly to type; wants to be vague but not completely incomprehensible, wants to catch someone's attention but only the sort of someone who can help him. Not everyone.

Fine line, Peter, fine line.

And then, of course, there's the chance that no one's going to have what he needs and then he'll be back at square one but exposed and lacking and.. Ugh. Just ugh.]

Okay. This may seem a little 'out there' but I'm looking for information on web. Like strong weight-bearing web. Or some sort of light weight, thin cable.

Actually you could say I'm looking for it instead of just information on it.

For science.

Information, thoughts and any sort of general direction pointing would be greatly appreciated.

[Pete drops his head on the console and presses post; at what point does one stop doubting their every move?]

[001; video]

[When the video feed clicks on, anyone paying attention will be treated to the image of a man who looks wildly uncomfortable. He's dressed in local clothes—his options were change into the garb generously offered or sit in the bloody, wet suit that just happened to be his favorite and is now instead draped across the back of his chair and probably ruined forever along with most of his other stuff—and is wearing an expression that's a curious mix of frustrated and tired and dazed. Like he knows what's going on, but can't quite believe it.

He rubs his face before speaking, shoulders rising and falling with an inaudible sigh. Without fully raising his gaze to meet the camera, he says:]

My name is Phil Coulson. I just—

[He hesitates, thinking. How is he supposed to approach this? "Hi, I just died, it's nice to meet you all here in this afterlife I wasn't expecting?" Bright blue eyes flicker toward the keyboard, then dart back up, this time focusing directly on the lens.]

I arrived here a little while ago.

[And there it is, the versatile, thin-lipped little smile that those who know him already know so well. This time, it's meant to convey something akin to appreciation toward those who helped him, but it looks a bit pained. He's not sure he can help that.

Because, you know, his back is killing him. Pun completely intended.]

Just thought I would say hello.

[ video ]

[ For a moment, the video appears to be stuck, as if in pause. The girl looking slightly askew of the camera is very still, and only the faint flutter of wind disturbing the bits of dark baby-hair sticking out from the top of her head indicates that the feed is, in fact, perfectly fine--

--and then, she snaps out of it, face gaining back it's animation and she blows her cheeks out, follows it up with a deep breath and nods. ]

So, uh.

Right.

[ Her hands come up in a sort of surrender, sort of awkward 'Hi, this is me' because wow this is weird, video calls when she is in her pajamas. Her salt-water-soaked-but-nevertheless-now-dry pajamas.

It is not comfortable. She doesn't mind Skyping with friends while dressed in her bedtime clothes, but wow, not like this.

She shakes her head, runs her fingers through her hair and huffs: ]

Okay let me start over.

[ The change is subtle, but the difference is huge. Shoulders straightened but not tense, she looks directly into the camera with purpose and suddenly it doesn't matter what she looks like. ]

Hello, my name is Katherine Bishop and I've just arrived in the city.

I've been appraised by the people who fished me out of the water on what little they seem to feel they can divulge, so you can consider this a shout-out to anyone who can supply me information that will give me a better idea of Turtle Land.

I haven't seen the city much, but I'm a keen observer and no stranger to tension in the atmosphere when I see it.

[ There's a brief and considering pause before she continues in a less blunt tone that leans more to negotiation. ] I have currently nothing to trade with or pay you by for the information and I know I don't really look like much at the moment, but I guarantee that I can offer you my resume and list of skillsets if you require all of that in writing.

[ A beat.] Also, if there is anyone from home out there who sees this, please drop me a message. I'm not even going to lie, guys. It would be awesome to see familiar faces right about now. [ There's a faint twitch of a smile at the corner of her mouth before she reaches over and the feed goes dark. ]

oo1. ❝ V I D E O ❞

[ hello salut hallo privyet etc

guess who looks like a nutty professor and is finally using the network? if you answered the doctor, you are correct and possibly receive a lifetime supply of bowties. maybe. if you're cool enough for them.

if anyone's already seen him around, it's worth noting that he looks less excitable for once and more... frustrated to put it simply. he's poking and prodding at things on the console and slightly frowning before he crosses his arms and settles down to start talking. ]

So, curfews gone. That's nice, isn't it? Was a bit inconvenient there for a bit -- but no. Hang on. It went away a little too easily.

Is it 'cause we did our jobs? Cleaned up the gang mess all nice and we're being rewarded by being able to go roam about again? Well, it was nice because I found a little shop but. But. Still so very many questions left to be answered. I've talked to Billy already, but anyone else want to give me their best rundown of the place?

[ he stops and sits back into a more relaxing position. even starts smiling now. ] I've got tea and something like crisps if you want to come over! I'm the Doctor, somewhere about the Metal Sector, hello.

[ yep, that's about it, he's said his piece and now to wait.......................

except that's all he's been doing for sometime (he's not sure how long because he hasn't been keeping track) and really, linear time is the absolute worst. things happening in their right and proper order and nothing to do but drum his fingers on the console.

so when no one shows up at his doorstep in about five minutes like he was expecting, he turns the video feed back on and rests his hands on his cheeks looking very much like a bored child. ]

Well, this is just rubbish. Do you lot just sit there or is there something to do in this place? Not anything. Something exciting. I need busy, I need amusing, I need something that is not absolutely dull and going to drive me out of my mind.

[ frustrated sigh!!! if he looks like he's ready to tear his hair out, that's pretty much because he is ]

video;

[Ororo's decked out in the cloths she arrived in back during the festival, only she's fresh off her 'shift' of the day.]

Okay, so the whole anti-Foreigner thing aside, some of these kedan guys seem nice. I guess.

[They haven't freaked out at her for her hair or eyes, for one thing, but she's not totally convinced.]

But, can I get a second opinion on the job thing? There's a bunch of us that've been here long enough to know if it's a sham or not. [She leans back in her chair, bracing her boots against the edge of her desk, running her fingers through her hair.]

Look, last time I had to do a few hours "work" -- [She brackets the word with finger quotes.] -- for secure room and board really didn't work for me or my friends. [Weapon X project, she's looking at you.] I just want to make sure that kind of mess is never going to happen again.

[The deputising was bad enough, thx.]

[Nita's at an anonymous cafe console, chin propped on one hand with a cup of something steaming at her elbow.]

Something occurred to me during all that rioting. A lot of us are from civilizations that don't really do sword fighting anymore, right? But that and arrows are pretty much all they've got here. If anyone wants to learn how to use a sword--or a knife or a staff or whatever--I can teach you. I come from a civilization that still does a lot of sword fighting.

[That sounds more dry than boastful. Atlanteans are warlike douchebags who enjoy a bit of stabbing each other over disputes, and that's not Nita's scene. She pauses for a second before giving fair warning:]

But, uh, it's hard to learn? Not like with guns. You're going to have to practice a lot to get tolerable, never mind good. So don't say I didn't warn you.

[Kara’s addressing the network with the slightest twist of her lips in something that…could possibly be a smile?]

Two things.

One – I need more cigars. Anyone got that ‘special place’ they go to here for stuff like that? I’ve found a few places that are…alright, and yeah I know there’s nothing quite like a good vintage, but damn I’d like something close, for fraks sake.

[She looks almost sadly at the cigar she’s holding. It’s the last one she’s got from home so she’s been saving it for a special occasion and smoking what she can find here instead.]

Second – anyone up for a game of cards? [She smirks.] My triad deck finally dried out. Bring your juulan, so I can take it from you. [8D]

oo2 [Video]

[So Billy has been that bored that he's either listened and watched most of the conversations going on, and had moments of horrible home sickness. Boredom doesn't begin to cover how he's feeling. Now that the action has died down, it's just a constant moment of sitting on the edge of your seat, waiting. Waiting sucked.]

So, someone mentioned comic books. Kinda curious about who else here really read them back where they come from and what kind? What were they like? Heroes, blah, blah, blah.

I'm that bored and yeah, curious.

I'm into finding old issues, we have titles that are based on like hero teams from my world as well. Collect Avengers titles. They're uh...a team back home.

→ video

Good morning Keeliai, how are we all today?

[Steph is sitting at her console, leaning back in her chair with her legs propped up on the desk. She's smiling, and for those that know her, it's the sort of smile that should be extremely concerning. Those that don't know her may also be feeling like they're about to hear something they don't want to.

She is going to be a terrible person today.]

I'm going to preface this message by saying that anyone under the age of 16, or whatever the age of legality is where you're from, should tune out now, please and thank you. I'm not gonna be explicit or anything, but it's probably not going to be appropriate for kids. [she gives a pointed look, yes you, Damian, switch off the computer now.]

I was taking an anthropology class back home, and my professor happens to be here too. [she wrinkles her nose, like yes, I know that's super weird, how do you think I feel?] And he's been giving me assignments and stuff, because apparently being kidnapped by a giant turtle isn't a valid excuse not to keep up with coursework. The topic we'd been studying before I got brought here was human sexuality, and Professor Craig suggested I write a paper on kedan sexuality instead. [Hi Bruce.] Except, uh, after the last couple weeks, I'm not really keen on that idea.

But I have been thinking about all these people with superpowers running around, and like - we've got comics back home, right? But they tend to focus on the whole defeating supervillains and stopping alien invasions side of things, which is great, sure, I love a good action story, but there's something that just never really comes up.

[she looks directly at the camera, the very picture of scientific curiosity] Do they - or, do you, for the superpowered people in the audience - ever use their powers for sex? This isn't a rhetorical question, by the way, if you have used your powers in the bedroom, feel free to share with the class.

And in the interest of not excluding anyone from the conversation, anyone who's just a regular old human, or whathaveyou, you can discuss what sort of powers you'd like to have, and how you'd use them to impress the gender-of-your-preference.

Don't feel like you have to respond directly to me, you're more than welcome to talk amongst yourselves. I figured we could use a little lighthearted chat to take our minds off the situation. Don't you agree?

[She winks, clearly trying not to laugh, and sits back in her chair to wait for responses]
