[ For the most part he is quietly accepting of the explanation he’s been given for where he’s ended up. It’s certainly not what he had expected any afterlife to be like, but he does remember Maine advancing on him, remembers his sister failing to cover him, remembers dropping and knowing, knowing that Maine had come to take Theta from him, before he’d awoken on the shore here. As he was carted to his new home he spent the time in thought. He could only hope Theta had felt that North had done everything he could to try to keep him safe from the menace that his former teammate had become, and how very sorry he was that he had failed.

His strength had slowly returned by the time he was conveyed to his new apartment, and he takes off his helmet and his gauntlets, removes his weapons, lays them all out in a neat row on the kitchen counter before heading to the console to fiddle around with it. He reads over a few messages to get a feel for the place before deciding to open up a signal. He might as well make his presence known, see what friends he can make. ]

Hey, there. Name's Andrew, though I suppose it's possible there's someone here who once knew me as North. Either way, if you're up for making any new contacts, I'd be interested.

[It's Yelena, here with a quick question. She has a somewhat harried look about her, and she doesn't look like she's slept well with the bags under her eyes, but it doesn't make her any less alert.

That might be because of the coffee-like drink she's enjoying at one of the cafes in the Wood sector, but it's not what she's here to talk about.]

Just to be sure, no one has noticed any ghosts of people who aren't from Keeliai, right? That is, spirits of people who are definitely from their worlds instead of here, for instance?

So is that it?

We're all just going to buckle down, paint our bio-luminescent picket fence and start over?

In case the novelty of being on a giant turtle is waning, let me remind you: this is not how your life is suppose to be. They took us away from it - our lives. And they did so without giving us all the details.

Whatever we had in our time, that is what's real. Not this bullshit.

[So Phil has had quite enough of the nightmares and the not-really-sleeping and the general feeling of anxiety that's been nipping at his heels for nearly a month. It's messing with his ability to adapt—hell, to exist—and he's pretty sure there's only one solution.

It's what would have happened back home, anyway, if he didn't—

Well.

Anyway.]

[Tony appears in a pair of dress light slacks and a dark button down shirt with the top two buttons undone. He's in his suite and the area around the console is one-third office space and two-thirds workshop. A partial profile of the Mark VI can be seen in the far back.

He looks at the camera, his business face on.]

CEO of multinational corporation seeking employees for long walks on the beach and late, candlelit shifts. [He pauses, tut-tuting thoughtfully.] Must be willing to be to accept a benefits package that is, let's face it, far and above what that dime store imitation Wayne Enterprises offers.

[Tony drops the token formality, taking on a charming grin.]

Stark Industries is back in business, folks. I'm launching a Keeliai subsidiary with what is, by the by, a very generous initial contract. [Guess who's pleased to be offering mobile telecommunications to the enforcement of Keeliai?]

And here's where all of you -- [Said with a gesture to the camera.] -- come in. I'm hiring and entry-level pay is twice what the going rate offered by the kedan. Plus, you get the satisfaction of supporting your fellow Foreigners on this turtle acid trip.

Telecommunications experience is a bonus, but in a city that thinks the smoke signal is better than texting? I'll be flexible.

[His grin widens.]

And, ladies? The position of my personal assistant is open and pays three times the kedan rate, to start. Try not to trip over each other in your rush to apply, because I promise each and every one of you will get a personal interview with Tony Stark himself.

[The message: filtered to any of Steph's friends/acquaintances who are, or appear to be, in their late teens.

On screen: one Stephanie Brown curled up in a chair in front of her console, her hair slightly shorter than it was last time she posted to the network, but she's fine aside from that minor change. And, well, that the room behind her isn't the same as it used to be; it's still an Earth Sector suite, just a different building than her previous residence.]

I hope everyone and their possessions escaped the fire unscathed. And if anyone needs help for any reason, please don't hesitate to ask.

[a beat, and then she gestures to the room behind her] Aside from that, I just wanted to let you all know I've got a new address, since my suite is - pretty much gone, and in order to, well, not dwell on the fact a whole bunch of my stuff is now ash, I'm throwing a bit of a housewarming party.

You might've noticed this is video is filtered and encrypted, and that's 'cause I don't really want just anyone showing up at my new suite, so I'm keeping things to people I know and who're around my age. Which is, all of you. [a smile! Doesn't everyone feel lucky to be included] That said, if you have a friend you'd like to bring along, just run their name by me and I'm sure it'll be fine.

Otherwise, party, booze, food, dancing. Two nights from now, starting at sunset and ending whenever you all go home, there's no dress code aside from, you know, actually having clothes on, and while I'll have enough food and drinks for everyone, you're welcome to bring your to share if you're that sort of person. [She pauses to think over whether there's anything she needs to say, but, no, she's sure that's covered everything]

Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see you there.

[Time for a video post from yours truly.]

This may have been asked before but, what level of technology does everyone have where they're from? The more I've talked to people the more I've realized that where I'm from is...well, it's really far behind everyone else. Or at least it seems like it.

What sort of technology is normal in your world? Things that aren't powered by magic, that is.

[She is kinda sorta really curious, but anyone who answers had better be prepared to explain it in simple terms because no one has even discovered electricity yet in Ixia or Sitia. Heated baths? A luxury found only in the Commander's castle.

[Kara’s addressing the network with the slightest twist of her lips in something that…could possibly be a smile?]

Two things.

One – I need more cigars. Anyone got that ‘special place’ they go to here for stuff like that? I’ve found a few places that are…alright, and yeah I know there’s nothing quite like a good vintage, but damn I’d like something close, for fraks sake.

[She looks almost sadly at the cigar she’s holding. It’s the last one she’s got from home so she’s been saving it for a special occasion and smoking what she can find here instead.]

Second – anyone up for a game of cards? [She smirks.] My triad deck finally dried out. Bring your juulan, so I can take it from you. [8D]

[Suddenly, there's an unfamiliar voice on the network. Young, male, probably prepubescent and very, very familiar to some residents of Keeliai.]

These are some seriously nice digs. It's hard to believe that they have so many rooms "just in case," so I'm guessing this might be little more common than I was lead to believe. Do they employ kedan to wander around the Shell's Edge, plucking people out of the ocean? I wonder what you'd put on your resume: Plucker of Maybe Dead People Out of a Magical Ocean?

[The joke sounds slightly strained, but joking tends to make him feel a little more at ease.]

Anyway, I got the basic rundown from those kedan. Very friendly guys-- at least I think they were guys. But it'd be nice to have confirmation from more than one person. No offense to them, but I like cross-checking my sources.

And while we're on the subject: does anyone know anything about the Emperor? The kedan didn't speak about him too much.

[She knows where she is, or at least where the aliens have claimed she is. It seems fantastic to think that they’re actually telling the truth, but then, why anyone would bother to make up such a story is equally inexplicable.

She’d taken a few days just to watch, to learn what she can, to get a feel for the place and the people in it. Most of what’s being posted on the network is crap. People whining about money, about food, whining just for the sake of whining.

There are a few interesting tidbits of information, though. The word resistance catches her eye, puts her on guard instantly, and though she quickly determines that it’s not the same resistance, that nothing is the same here, it’s still unnerving, just to hear the familiar word.

The curfew doesn’t sound promising, either.

It’s only when she digs a little deeper that she finally runs across a familiar face, and freezes. No. Here, of all places - here, wherever here is, and she still hadn’t gotten away from them all? She quickly searches for more, reading every last one of York’s public posts, but he never mentions her, never mentions looking for her, and there doesn’t seem to be anyone else from the Project here, or anyone from the UNSC at all.

At least that’s something.

She’s not too big on the idea of giving herself away, though, and so when she does finally sit down at the console and speak to the network, it’s audio only, and her voice modifier is on. The voice is unrecognizable as her own, or as a woman's voice at all.]

So.

Has anyone managed to learn anything useful about what this place really is?

[It's as much to create a stir as anything, to see if anyone has any interesting theories or if they're all as blindly accepting of this as they seem.]

Good morning Keeliai, how are we all today?

[Steph is sitting at her console, leaning back in her chair with her legs propped up on the desk. She's smiling, and for those that know her, it's the sort of smile that should be extremely concerning. Those that don't know her may also be feeling like they're about to hear something they don't want to.

She is going to be a terrible person today.]

I'm going to preface this message by saying that anyone under the age of 16, or whatever the age of legality is where you're from, should tune out now, please and thank you. I'm not gonna be explicit or anything, but it's probably not going to be appropriate for kids. [she gives a pointed look, yes you, Damian, switch off the computer now.]

I was taking an anthropology class back home, and my professor happens to be here too. [she wrinkles her nose, like yes, I know that's super weird, how do you think I feel?] And he's been giving me assignments and stuff, because apparently being kidnapped by a giant turtle isn't a valid excuse not to keep up with coursework. The topic we'd been studying before I got brought here was human sexuality, and Professor Craig suggested I write a paper on kedan sexuality instead. [Hi Bruce.] Except, uh, after the last couple weeks, I'm not really keen on that idea.

But I have been thinking about all these people with superpowers running around, and like - we've got comics back home, right? But they tend to focus on the whole defeating supervillains and stopping alien invasions side of things, which is great, sure, I love a good action story, but there's something that just never really comes up.

[she looks directly at the camera, the very picture of scientific curiosity] Do they - or, do you, for the superpowered people in the audience - ever use their powers for sex? This isn't a rhetorical question, by the way, if you have used your powers in the bedroom, feel free to share with the class.

And in the interest of not excluding anyone from the conversation, anyone who's just a regular old human, or whathaveyou, you can discuss what sort of powers you'd like to have, and how you'd use them to impress the gender-of-your-preference.

Don't feel like you have to respond directly to me, you're more than welcome to talk amongst yourselves. I figured we could use a little lighthearted chat to take our minds off the situation. Don't you agree?

[She winks, clearly trying not to laugh, and sits back in her chair to wait for responses]

[The video comes up on a sparse office with three sheets of paper on the desk and, standing behind it, the Alderwood Commander in uniform. The wear-and-tear of the past month show minimally, but those that saw him at the festival may note slight shadows under the eyes from pulling overtime the likes of which you wouldn't believe. He rests his hands on the desk and addresses all console users with clipped words and a clear tone.]

Those of you that haven't stuck your heads out the door in a month might be surprised to hear we've got trouble on the rise. My officers are tasked to the breaking point handling it and there's intel to say more breach attempts are incoming.

Since they're using you Foreigners to take exception, it's about time you got the chance to do something about it. [A terse grin.] Effective immediately, I am authorising all Foreigners to act as enforcers to uphold the laws of Keeliai.

But don't go sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong. Each precinct's got a stack of cases that need follow-up, most of them arrests. Those of you community-minded enough to help can head to the nearest precinct and get your orders. Report back when you're done and a note will be made. Lieuen's agreed to pay five juulan per successful job once the troublemakers are all rounded up, so trust that it'll be worth your time.

[He stops and refers to a sheet at his left, scanning the data on it.]

I also need crisis response teams, three of them. You'll be on standby to move out at my order in the event of a breach. Teams will be briefed as activated. It's not a voluntary deal either. I know what you can do and if you're needed, you'll be there. You lucky souls-turned-soldiers are ID'd at the end of this message.

And you mercenary types are wise not to tune this out. Lieuen's chipped in danger pay for each deployment of the CRTs, fifteen juulan per head. That sweeten the deal enough?

[A pause for the information to sink in.]

This isn't about pride or falls, people. It's about whatever you need it to be, as long as that need gets you moving when you're needed. Good kedan are dying out there and there's no way to remedy your situation as long as all hell's broken loose. The sooner this is sorted, the better.

Any questions? Ask them now.

[The video ends for those not assigned to a crisis response team; to each of these, an encrypted segment is included.]

[When the feed comes up Clark is fiddling with the ring in his finger, smiling at the camera. He's obviously looking rather nervous- and it's not posing for his persona, he really does hate talking to crowds when he can't see them. Talking to the computer feels weird.

There's a reason he would rather give speeches than interviews.
]

So, I have been thinking. [He reaches to massage the back of his neck, sighing before he speaks again. It's clear he isn't sure about what he's going to say. He simply doesn't know if enough people will be interested.] I was a reporter back home- I've told some of you about this already. It was my job, and I liked it. But apart from that... it was useful. It was a way to get the information out, to make sure people knew what they needed to and were... prepared, aware of the world around them.

As far as I have seen, there isn't anything like that in this place. And I think it could be an useful tool for us- for the foreigners. We could get to know this place better, post articles about how to stay safe, slowly inform of what we get to know about the Kedan and their Emperor, about the turtle...

It wouldn't be printed in paper, of course. We don't have the resources for that. But a simple newspaper over the network... well, I think that could work.

[A smile.]

So... who would be interested in helping me with this little project?

[ Mandorallen has opted for video for his first post, because while he’s figured out how to use the keyboard, the notion of using it still mystifies him somehow. ]

Greetings, fair people. I thought perhaps I could trouble thee with a question of mine own, as it hath scarcely been a full day since I found myself on this strange isle. I was garbed in mail on mine arrival, and, as I had feared, my time in the water hath set it to rusting. Doth any man know of a sturdy armorer or blacksmith who might thusly be capable of mending it? The damage doth run deep, I fear, and I must confess that I feel naked striking out without its cool weight upon my breast.

[ He smiles, a bit vacantly, into the video feed -- its' definitely a foreign concept to be speaking to...well, no one at all, and yet still have an audience -- and after a moment’s hesitation, bows his head. ]

If any soul could offer assistance in this matter, I thank thee kindly.

[Being from a world that still communicates primarily through hand-written, hand-delivered letters makes the consoles of Tu Vishan particularly odd for Yelena. The idea talking to so many people at once, discussing things largely as a group is still strange. She understands the usefulness of the network of course, but it's been hard for her to remember that it's there to utilize until now.

Having spent the last few days in the palace as a guest of the Emperor while waiting for her poison situation to be remedied, she's kept busy in other ways. To be specific, she's been browsing through the palace library for information about well, just about everything that catches her interest. It's what she finds in the history books that finally prompts her to sit at her guestroom console.]

Guess saying ‘Galactica, come in’ is out of the question, huh? [She snorts, and ashes the cigar before putting it to her lips again to take a long drag.]

Peachy. [Brows up behind the glasses, and her mouth pulls into a smirk that’s lacking humor.] Sounds like we’re all going to be one big happy family here, doesn’t it? [She sounds SO pleased.]

[A teenager, roughly sixteen but no older than seventeen, flicks on the video. She looks pretty hesitant about showing her face, biting her lip and nervously running a hand through her hair, which is pulled back into a ponytail, and so she pulls out some strands with the motion, and the curls dangle. With careful attention, you might notice a streak of grey amongst the blonde.]

[But then she straightens up and her expression becomes something more determined. She hasn't seen anyone she knows in person, so here is a test. Hopefully it won't backfire.]

I need to know if anyone here is familiar with or from ‘Camp Half-Blood.’ [She pauses, then somewhat begrudgingly:] Or ‘Camp Jupiter,’ I guess.

[A sigh, then another pause. She taps her fingers on something off-screen]

Since a decent number of the population doesn’t really seem to be native, just how long have you all been here? I want to know if it’s a common trend or a newer phenomenon.

And does anyone know anything more about this place? Things you might have picked up on your own. I understand the basics, and I gather most of the newer residents have gotten similar lectures upon arrival, so don’t bother with reiterating. I’m mostly curious about things the kedan haven’t explained. I tried asking questions on the cart ride, but the ones who found me weren’t the most talkative on the way here. I’ve learned next to nothing about this Emperor.

[Her eyes widen slightly, as if she’s had a sudden realization] I thought I heard mention of a library – can someone tell me where it is? Or maybe it was a book store? Either way, the question still stands.
