We should talk. Think I may have actually found something useful for once.

[50% encryption to Skulduggery]

Maker I hate this thing. Skul, Akito and I came across something of interest. Did you go into that library?

[End encryptions]

Let's keep this simple so I don't have to play with this thing much longer. Who here visited the library on the island?

[He pauses for a moment.]

And someone tell Evandau to clear his schedule. I need to talk to him.

I - Video.

I certainly didn't expect to - How on earth do I - This is entirely too complicated. ( Evie's commentary is cut short when she realizes that others might be watching her. The device says "recording", which is a word she equates with...movie cameras? But they hardly look anything like what she is holding in her hands. ) My name is Evelyn O'Connell and I run the British Museum. I'm -

not sure what to make of this place. It's like nothing I have ever seen before. I would like to know more about it. ( She is going to forego thinking about the technology (which seems to be quite advanced) and focus on something she is comfortable with. Books. ) Are there any books about the history of this land? I would love to read them.

Actually if there is a library, I wouldn't mind reading any books I can get my hands on. ( It's easier for her to focus on gaining knowledge. Before she even fiddled with her communicator, she experienced a moment of panic at being separated from Rick, Alex and Jonathan, but now she knows what she needs to do. She doesn't have time to fall apart. It won't do her any good and she knows that. ) I hope I'm using this correctly.

[Live from the Fire Sector, it's a large black dragon with a very nice necklace! He is seated in his three-story suite, the intervening floors of which have mostly been removed thanks to the expertise and efficiency of Javert's construction team. What parts of it are visible onscreen give the suite a far more spacious appearance than it did previously, which serves to make Temeraire look a little smaller and (hopefully) a little less intimidating.]

It has come to my attention that my appearance has caused some of you distress in the past few days. I should not like to alarm anyone further, so I suppose I had better introduce myself now and clear away any more misconceptions before they have had a chance to start.

I suppose I cannot blame you for your reactions, since I am given to understand many of you are unfamiliar with dragons, save from various legends, most of which sound farfetched at best and highly offensive at worst. But I do not breathe fire, and I am not feral, and I would certainly never do anything as rude as try to kidnap and eat any of you, regardless of whether or not you are a young lady; I cannot imagine it would make much difference in taste, besides. Of course I would not object to having a great pile of gold to sleep on, but as I do not have one at present I am certainly not going to steal yours, unless you are such a booby as to leave it lying around for anyone to take.

[He huffs slightly, then settles back on his haunches, somewhat mollified.] So there we have it: you know that I am here, and that I am not going to accidentally squash you, or eat you, and with that out of the way, I have have noticed a few things which I suppose everyone should be aware of.

Firstly, there seem to be a great number of you from the twenty-first century at least, which I thought was very exciting at first; but now I realize I must have missed a great many things over the course of the last two hundred years, particularly in the realm of the sciences, and I should like to catch up on whatever I have missed. If you are not averse to discussing any of it with me, I should very much like to listen to all you have to say.

Secondly, whatever miasma has afflicted the other sectors is present here in the Fire sector as well; it has grown cold these past few days, and our suites are poorly lit besides. I am certain the damage must have spread elsewhere, and I would like to propose a small expedition of perhaps two or three others, to the outer reaches of the shell. I am curious to see if the disease has also affected what local wildlife remains, and if there is some aspect of its process that we may have overlooked. It will be no great inconvenience to take you on my back; I expect we will be able to get around faster and more comfortably than most, if we fly directly. Of course anyone may come, if they like, but I think it would help very much if you are a scientist, and not afraid of heights.

Pray inform me if you have any questions. [He pauses, then switches off the feed.]

002 ◉ joint video

[ Video feed clicks on. It’s Soranik’s Earth Sector suite, but she’s not alone. Kyle is standing to right side of the screen, wearing a deep green sweatshirt that has a white insignia - for those who’ve noticed, it’s the same as his ring. His arms are folded, he is standing up straight, shoulders squared, he’s a little tense about the jaw, but otherwise comfortable. ]

[ On the left is Soranik, and she’s wearing something similar to Kyle, only this time it’s a tank top with the same insignia. Once she registers that the feed is working, she gives a slight nod to Kyle. ]

[ He looks directly at the camera. His instinct, of course, is to begin with ‘We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming’ but this is Corps business. (He doesn’t do Corps business usually, Salaak does.) Which means when he speaks, he sounds a little strange for people who’ve heard him talking normally, but the words roll off easily and confidently. He’s clearly accustomed to it. ]

Good morning, Keeliai. My name is Kyle Rayner, of Earth, and this is Soranik Natu, of Korugar. [ A pause. ] We represent the Green Lantern Corps. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the name, it’s a paramilitary organisation [ wow how to find analogues? He goes for an Earth equivalent ] kind of like UN troops, but on a galactic scale.

What Honor Guard Rayner means--[ He interjects immediately: ] Lantern Rayner. [ Tense silence. ]

What the Torchbearer means is that we are trained to adapt and help when and where we can - this place is no different.

[ Kyle shoots Soranik a cold look, but decides to keep quiet. ]

[ She ignores him, and continues on - holding up her right hand, green ring clear. ]

This is called a power ring - each Lantern has one, and how we’re able to patrol the universe effectively. Whatever we can imagine, it can create.

[ He unfolds his arms and leans forward. The cold expression is no longer there. A map attachment is added, with Soranik’s quarters marked out in red. ] We’re temporarily based in EA-3B. If you’re in trouble or need us for anything, one of us will be here at all times. We also have a clinic attached. [ Beat. ] Lantern Natu is the best doctor in Guardian space. [ With the tone of: ‘I don’t say this lightly.’ ]

[ She doesn’t make any attempt to argue with him or downplay her skill, because she knows she is. ] It should also be known that if any of you decide that you’d like a power ring of your own - you’d be better off forgetting about it. Neither of us have the time nor the desire to tolerate attacks and we will win.

[ Kyle’s only outward reaction is a brief quizzical look at Soranik. He turns back to the screen. With an implied ‘this is more for your benefit than ours’: ] What she means to say is: the rings only work for us. Torturing us or attempting mind-control in order to get them is a waste of your time, [ said as though this is a perfectly normal thing that happens to them, because it is. Also said quite neutrally, like he’s not terribly concerned if someone tries to do it. They'll lose, after all. ] we’ve been trained to resist extremely effectively. And killing us isn’t going to work either. The ring will just become unusable.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Honor Guard Rayner and I will answer them to the best of our abilities.

[ Kyle tenses slightly at the rank, but otherwise simply nods, waiting for any comments or questions the public might have. ]

[ooc: Green is Soranik, black is Kyle.]

[The feed starts off with the type-written name and address of a noodle bar in the Metal Sector. Then he switches to video, because this typing crap is just a pain in the ass. He's always preferred talking to people face-to-face, and this's the next best thing. So you guys get to look at his ugly red mug, which isn't much compared to a lot of the kedan. Though not many kedan go out of their way to look like a living caricature of Satan himself.]

Anyone still interested in joining the team, first bowl of noodles is on me.

[Post is here for anyone who wants to attend and mingle.]

If you don't know what I'm talking about, I've been trying to open an agency responsible for researching and helping people deal with problems related to the paranormal on the turtle. I've worked in the field for over fifty years and dealt with anything from ghosts to vampires and everything in between. If you have questions, need help, or want to volunteer, just let me know. Or you can just stop by the office upstairs from the bar at that address. I'm still in the process of getting things set up, but don't be afraid to drop in.

[The console feed fires up, password keyed in before she's even settled into the chair. Ororo is wearing her jacket still, fresh from outside and looking to play the hybrid between winded and frustrated. She brushes hair away from her face and leans on the edge of the console.]

X-Men, shout out. Anyone heard from Kurt or the Professor?

[She's seen neither of them lately and a couple spins around the city haven't shed light on where they are. After a second, she shakes her head and starts shrugging off her jacket.]

Everyone else, what're your thoughts on having live theatre around here? I asked a couple kedan and they looked at me like I'd sprouted a third leg -- only you'd think they'd be okay with that.

Point is, me and Toby're thinking about translating some late nineties masterpieces and updating some serious Hollywood classics and putting them on. Got any requests?

[It's been a while since Hellboy's shown his face. Not since the zombie attack. Truth be told, he hasn't felt all that social over the last week or so. Liz is gone again. He's not really sure how he feels about that. But her absence has got him thinking, and too much thinking lead to old habits that really do die hard. He spends most of the week at the bottom of a bottle holed up in his living room, staring at the intricate star chart that had been given to him by a stranger. Trying to make sense of things. Just trying to figure out how this fits into the big picture.

He thinks a lot about Liz, and the seed of an idea she planted just before she disappeared. She'd wanted to start some type of Bureau here, and maybe that wasn't such a bad idea. If there's one thing the Foreigners needed, it was organization. And if there was one thing Hellboy needed, it was a distraction. This could very well be a recipe for both.

Though he's dubious of his actual organizational skills. His strategy for everything was almost always to plunge in head-first without any kind of preparation. He was nothing like Bruttenholm or even Manning, but he could damn well try. He'll do it for Liz.

So he cleans himself up a little, or about as much as Hellboy ever does, and puts on his best game face. (Which, when your face is mostly stuck like that, is never hard.)

The feed starts with a steady silence and a level, golden-eyed gaze. Then he realizes the thing is actually on and begins.

Here goes nothin'...]

Anyone who knew her, Elizabeth Sherman disappeared about a week ago.

[He can't say for certain she's back in their world. There's no way of telling that for sure. He tries not to think about it too hard.]

Before she left she proposed getting together an organization similar to the one we worked for back in our world here on the Turtle. For anyone who's not familiar, I'll give you a quick run-down.

It's called the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, an organization that studies the paranormal around the world and is responsible for fighting off any big nasties that might pop up in the meantime. Ghosts, demons, vampires, you name it.

Most of our employees are researchers, like to paw through rotting manuscripts and study trolls. Me... they just send me in when things get messy. Though I've trained plenty of new agents before.

I'm not really the administrative type. So if anyone's willing to help get this off the ground, I'd appreciate it. What we really need are people interested in the actual research end of things. Though field agents aren't a bad thing either.

I know a few people spoke to Liz in her first message. I'd like to speak to them again if I can. Just let me know if you're interested and what you might be able to bring to the table. Maybe we might start making sense of this place.

[Yeah, this sure won't be his father's Bureau, but it might be something.]

[Hellboy has a bad feeling about this. He’s been prowling around the barrier since the moment the Turtle hit bottom, and he hasn’t stopped since. The corpses in the water were unnerving, and when they started to stir in their watery graves, he learns he has every right to be worried.

Technology really isn’t his favorite thing. That’s why Hellboy tries his best to avoid using the network as much as he can. But seeing those horrible things pressing themselves against the barrier like a pack of hungry, undead kids in a candy store means it’s time to suck it up and try his hand at a PSA. If things really do end up going to crap, maybe it’ll count for something.

So early in the unwavering dark of an undersea afternoon, he stations himself in one of the console cafés somewhere near the edge of the city, doing his best to prepare for the worst.]

Hope this thing’s as zombie-proof as it is waterproof.

[Yeah… right. As if it’s ever that simple.]

Just in case anyone didn’t notice, we have a few visitors outside trying to drop by uninvited.
I’ve heard people have been able to travel in and out of the barrier pretty easily. That means there’s a good chance those things might find their way through.

My advice… don’t panic. Stay home, stay away from the barrier.

If anyone has enough firepower to blow up or burn a zombie, let me know. I know we’ve got some talented people out there. Would probably be a good idea to have people out and ready just in case.

[So this is Hellboy trying to be proactive without stirring up too much of a panic. It’s not his usual style, but he does the best he can. There’s really no way of preparing for something like this. But if things really do start going south, prepared or not, it’s gonna get ugly. So he’ll be out there, and he’ll be waiting.]

02 [Video]

[So this is awkward. Liz has never been very good at talking about business beyond "what do you need me to burn". Handling everyone as a group was always Kate's thing - but Kate isn't here, and Hellboy's skills with rounding people up usually leave something to be desired. So she's just going to put on her best poker-face and do this.

Thankfully, she's always been good at keeping a straight face.
]

I'm sure something everyone's noticed about this place is that there's no shortage of paranormal things going on. Some of you may be used to it, while others probably aren't.

For those of you that don't know me, I'm Agent Elizabeth Sherman, and back home I work for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Our job was to research, monitor, and investigate paranormal happenings around the world. ... And defend mankind from it, whenever it came to that. [Which it did. Very frequently.]

Considering the nature of this place, I thought it would be wise to try and put together something similar over here. That way the next time something happens, we'll have a group ready to take care of the problem without having to worry about civilians and other non-combatants getting caught up in the mess.

Of course, it's the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. So along with fighters, we'll need people with knowledge of the paranormal - and who could maybe help with looking into finding more information about the nature of the things found in this world - people who can keep records of what's already happened... office kind of stuff, basically. [She does paperwork when she has to, but it's not her forte, okay.]

If you're interested, let me know your experience with this sort of thing and what you're planning to contribute, and we can work something out.

01 [Video]

[It's been a weird day.

She had been exploring the mainlands with Hellboy, then suddenly she's being dragged out of the ocean and being treated like fresh meat by the kedan. Then she was brought back to a newly rebuilt EA-1A -
but they weren't done rebuilding it yet - and left home to think about what had just happened.

So far? It's been confusing. And she's still confused, which is why she's got the video turned on so she can address everybody here.
]

Out of curiosity, have the kedan been acting weird to anyone else? I just got fished out of the ocean and was given the newbie treatment even though I've been here for months.

That, and it seems a lot of things have changed without much time in between. [She'd mention her building, but... that's still a sore spot.]

I don't remember drinking anything strong enough on the mainland to make me black out, but that wouldn't be the first time things didn't make any sense around here.

[Evening, Turtle-heads! It's one of your resident Spider-men, calling from a netcafe somewhere in the metal sector. Actually it's not even his console, he had to borrow one of the kedan's, since, well, kind of important. Don't worry he paid him for it.]

Hey, it's me again. Quick question: Anybody around here know much about ghosts? Specifically how to tell whether or not somebody's been possessed?

Because I've got a couple bad guys webbed up against a wall out here, all pleading possession. And given all the weird stuff happening lately, I'm not really comfortable phoning the cops for a pick-up just yet.

[Since nobody's head is spinning around and spitting green goop all over, Spidey's officially out of ideas for possible symptoms.]

[text]

I know some of you must have experience dealing with ghosts or spirits or whatever these are. I don't, and I'd rather not invite the locals into my space.

I will pay anyone who can get these things out of my suite or tell me how to do it myself. Preferably in time for me to get some sleep tonight.

[Hey, Keeliai. Have one (1) little Dick Grayson looking quite tired.]

I don't know about you guys, but this is definitely a new experience for me. Ghosts back home aren't usually this... clear. They're more like smudges on a camera and ladders falling over in old houses.

[Behind him, a ghost kedan wanders by, pushing a push broom.]

It actually makes the whole thing less terrifying. But I kind of wish they'd remember that the living still need to sleep.

[As if on cue, a very heavy pot falls in the kitchen. Dick glances toward the kitchen, sighs, and looks at the camera again.]

I had some ghost busters knocking at my door earlier today, but I don't really want to hurt them. I just want them to go back. I tried copying what I saw in movies, but I'm sadly not an ordained priest, so that kind of limits me.

Any ideas?

[Ghosts. At first, Hellboy's not all that surprised by them. Over the last few years he's spent plenty of time with ghosts. When he's alone, it's kind of nice to have that kind of company again. Ghosts don't care much about the future, only the past. No speculating, no worrying over what's gonna happen next. It's strangely relaxing.

So over the last few days, when he's not checking up on Liz, he's found himself some new pals. He keeps to himself. They play cards, he drinks, tells old stories, and they come and go as ghosts tend to do.

It's not until he gets a chance to do some roaming around Keeliai does he realize how widespread the haunting really was.

It's a little unsettling, to say the least. He's pretty used to this kind of thing, but ghosts don't usually appear this solidly and in this great a number. Not unless something especially big and nasty came around to stir them up. Though if what they say about this place is true--about it existing somewhere between life, dreaming and death--maybe it's not that rare.]

Guess we've got ourselves a ghost problem. They seem pretty harmless, but if anyone has any trouble, I know a few ways of getting rid of them.

And don't waste your time with the guys in the masks. I think they're just out to make a buck.

[That pissed him off a little. Earlier he had seen a guy with a ridiculous mustache claiming to be an "expert" try to chase an especially irritated poltergeist out of a florist shop by banging pans together and doing some kind of crazy Macarena. And he tried to charge ten juulan for it. That was just painful.]
imlikeabird: ([ ✘ ] Damnit quit breaking Hawke)

[ video ]

[As a mage, Hawke has and always will be a target. When he sleeps, he goes to this place called the Fade and while he's there, it's like he's wearing a neon flashing sign that says 'come get me!' Spirits of all shapes and sizes and affinities are looking to invade his brain and use him as their vessel into the mortal world. It's one of the reasons mages are put up in the Circle in Thedas.

The point is that Hawke is sort of sensitive to these kinds of things.

He didn't sleep well last night. Something kept banging on the walls. And when he finally gets up, he finds some of his possession smashed or moved from their various places around his suite, he's more than a little wary. Spirits slipping through the Veil weren't the friendliest bunch. At least he hasn't encountered any.]

As I'm sure many of you are aware, we'll be making landfall soon - and it sounds like we'll need intervening time to prepare. I'm going to take a survey team out, see what we can find, collect some things that the kedan have requested. I'd be willing also to get soil samples and whatever else the scientists here from... off-turtle? Off-world?

[A small smile and he refocuses on the transmission.] In any case. I'll be putting together supplies for a team of no more than six, myself included, for a ten-day span in rough terrain. Five days out, five day return. It will not be pleasant and it will be dangerous.

[He pauses.] A few of you already know you'll be coming with me. [PEGGY, BUCKY, HE'S LOOKING AT YOU.] I'm prepared to take volunteers or recommendations.

She didn't learn much, and she's out her new favorite snack food. Damn.
]

Anyone around here good with a hammer and nail? I've got a messed up window, and a giant crack in my floor courtesy of the storm.

[AKA: Hancock, you're an asshole. But, she's not calling him out, either.]

I, for instance, learned she's probably not a cannibal.

Still, people have a right to know at least a little about why the Sector burned before they start jumping to conclusions. He may not be the best public speaker for the job, but he'll try his best.]

I know people have been wondering about the cause of the fire in the Earth Sector last week. I was there, and I can tell you it was just an accident, not any kind of anti-foriegner terrorist attack. I'm sorry that people got hurt, but most of us made it out alive. That's the important thing.

[There. He'll leave it just like that. Some people might not buy it, taking into account that the first explosion of fire was more like a bomb and less like someone leaving the oven on, but he's using the term "accident" loosely. Oi, has anyone seen Merle lately? She's basically like a catgirl--you know, tail and cat ears and everything? She lives in the Earth Sector, I think...

[He trails off, staring at his tea for awhile before he blinks, seeming to remember something.]

Oh, there was something I wanted to tell you guys. I was gonna say something sooner, but then all this crap happened and the storm, so...anyway, in case you don't know or were wondering? The Emperor is the one who brought us here. Yeah! It's all her fault that we're stuck here. It wasn't the turtle or anything we did, it was all her. She says we're here for some kind of purpose, but she didn't even tell me what that was! Not even a hint!

...So yeah. That's all I wanted to say.
