[Seeing herself looking back at herself in the little window on the corner of her monitor, Korra gave a stumped look and tapped the little camera lens that the desktop was using. Seeing her huge finger tapping back at her caused her a smile and she cleared her throat. Music can be heard from the speakers.]

Ahem. Hello. My name's Korra, I just got here. I'm the Avatar, but I'm not too sure that means anything here. [She looks both angry and confused, immediately wondering why she just thought of that now instead before.] But anyway, the kedan informed me that I should probably get a job. [Of course it probably sounded a lot nicer when they said it.]

So if anyone knows of a good place to work at, I'd appreciate the help. [She leans forward and puts her forehead in her hand, admonishing herself for not bringing up what she would able to do for work.] Um, I'm a bender, I can create fire and move water or earth around or into just about any shape or form you need? [Ice sculpting crossed her mind. She'd never given any thought to it. Then again she was never too artistic to begin with.] I don't know if fire matters? Burning things doesn't sound a like it'd be in big demand...

Also I'm a former pro athlete! If there's any kinds of sports going on I'd like to get into that! [A smile spreads across her face.] Doesn't even have to be a job, just for fun.

I'm in the Metal Sector if that helps. If anybody's from there we can meet up and you could fill me in a little more about this place? Looks pretty cool to be honest. Oh, and food, meeting at a restaurant would be good. [She stares at her monitor screen with her lips pushed to one side of her mouth.] And any advice or pointers on these things- [She points at the monitor, which just seems like she's pointing at the viewers.] would be welcome too. The kedan gave me a quick once over for it, but I'm not sure that's going to be enough.

[There's an long awkward pause as she looks left to right nervously.]

Yeah, that's about it.

[She seems a little flabbergasted as she recalls that she was told earlier pretty much the same thing.]

Jobs are kind of a new thing to me. [She smiles a little sheepishly since she never had to actually work, just train and was taken care of.]

Oh no, no. [She puts up her hands defensively.] Well, fire yeah. But there needs to be earth or rock and water to bend them. And air, but there's always air. [Her voice drops in volume.] I'm not the best with air.

But I hope bending can help me with that. Maybe I can do something for the rationing the kedan told me about? I don't know.

Well, the kedan are always looking for people to help in the fields, and you can find work purifying water in the Water Sector if you're able to do that. [Since that's one of the things Sabriel's done in her time here.]

Uh, hi there Wally. [She's just going stare at his red hair like it's actually on fire for minute.]

Earthbenders can learn to bend the minerals in metal, but I've never learned it. Plastic would be a definite nuh-uh. Just the four elements Water, Earth, Fire, and Air.

So what is telekinesis exactly Mr. Wally?

So, what exactly is 'the Avatar'? Figure it's safe enough to assume it's tied to your powers, but uh, that's about as far as I'm willing to go.

[Well, that, and the "probably not evil" part because...well, obvious reasons behind that. If you're evil, you're the world's worst supervillain.]

Where I'm from the Avatar was originally the spirit of the world given human form. Since then, every time the Avatar dies they get reincarnated into a nation that follows the cycle: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. The Avatar before me was from the Air Nomads and I'm from the Southern Water Tribe, see? [She's really hoping this isn't confusing to whoever she's talking to.]

Anyway, each nation has quite a few people who can bend their element. Like a bender from the Earth Kingdom can move rocks and part the ground or a bender from the Fire Nation can create a huge fireball. But the Avatar is the only one who can bend more than one element. All of them actually.

Which also means it's the Avatar's duty to maintain balance between the nations. [She nods with a quasi-exhausted look on her face.] Can be pretty tough.

So what's with the getup? Is there a festival?

[Leo's only half-paying attention to the network as he works on his Hoverboard project, but he freezes when he hears the words "creating fire." It still astounds him how some people could so freely admit to having a power so destructive, and maybe he's even a little bit jealous that they could reveal their gift so easily, when he still couldn't shake away the fear of getting rejected if anyone knew what he could do.

And that's what pushes him to speak with her.

[Quickly she clears a throat a sturdy 'Ahem'.]

Actually I think firebending is probably my favorite. [Despite her light blue clothing and water tribe heritage.] So what's your name?

I never learned metalbending, so I guess it makes sense.

The basics sure, the kedan helped with that. Doesn't mean this mouse, never going to get used to calling it that, is getting any easier to get used to. [She pushes it away from her with her finger.]

Let me see if I got this straight: you can manipulate water, fire, earth...and yet, you end up in the Metal sector? How does that even work out?

[Granted, she knew there was probably more to the housing assignments than powers alone, but it was an interesting bit of trivia.]

Yeah, maybe because I have a lot less things to manipulate? [Recalling the incident when she first arrived in Republic City she gives a somber tone.] Maybe it's not such a bad idea. Not like anyone could teach me to metalbend anyway. But it is pretty neat here. I mean, you can condition the air.

Without airbending! [This is the most important thing in her life right now.] Which is also a good thing since my airbending is kind of...unrefined.

Oh yeah. The Avatar has to be able to bend all four element and keep order in the world. Back home anyway.

[Her head perks up at the mention of a radio station.] Now that I can relate to! I've listened to the radio since I was a little kid, but I've never been in a radio station before.

Oh? A volleyball pro, eh? I wouldn't mind a game or two. Don't worry, I won't bend. I'm not too familiar with sand anyway.

Your powers sound amazing. Perhaps you could use fire to melt or join together metal? There might be some call for that.

[Korra actually jumps after hearing him, in the first split second she instantly assumed she was looking at a girl.] Thanks, I'm pretty fond of them myself.

Forging? I never thought of that as an option before. Not too sure if I can get my firebending to get that hot though, I've never tried to actually melt metal before.

[Suddenly she seems hopeful.] Why, do you own a forge?

What kind of sport did you do? I used to play soccer at school. [A pause.] Oh, I'm Vanessa, by the way.

Well, um, Vanessa; not a god. No. The Avatar is the spirit of the earth in human form, but when the Avatar dies they become reincarnated. This is so the Avatar can keep a balance in the world by mastering control over the four elements of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. Since each element has a nation, like the Air Nomads or the Earth Kingdom and people who can bend that one element like a firebender or a earthbender it's up to the Avatar to keep order between them. Mainly by bending all four elements, since no one else can.

And I was next in line. Go figure.

[Her face lights up way too quickly.] Pro-bending! It's where teams of three benders face off and try to gain territory by bending their element to push the other back. But if an entire team gets knocked off the back of the arena it's an instant win! Total adrenaline rush.

You might have trouble finding work right now. The kedan have been really on edge since we started rationing.

Thanks, nice to meet you too; Kara? [Her last word was more a question for permission to use that nickname than anything else. Korra's eyes lingered on her hair. Even though she had seen people with blonde hair since her arrival, it was still something to look at.]

Yeah, I've noticed that about the kedan. Rationing isn't my favorite situation either.

[The entire time Korra is simply sitting there with her mouth agape and her widened unblinking eyes. It takes a full minute before she finally says anything.] You're a dragon! I thought they were all dead. [She shakes her head before looking at the screen again. On her world, no one has seen a dragon since the last one was slain over half a century ago.] And you can talk!?

[Placing her arms on the desk for support, she leans in a little closer to the computer and whispers loudly.] Can you teach me some advanced firebending?

[Of course she completely missed everything she had just been told.]

[A small frown comes across Korra's face when she sees the youngster. Not many were younger than her and thinking of them being here in between life and death wasn’t a nice idea. Once she hears the first four words, she can’t help but smile.]

Yes! Asami was here? [Her excitement dies down just as quickly as it rose.] I’ve been here before? [Something hit the pit of her stomach, hard. How could she not remember any of this…] So we forget everything once we leave…
