[You know... getting use to all of that technology that keeps cropping up back home is one thing, but this is ridiculous. Everything was explained to him, and he knew the basics but... Tonraq still fumbles a bit with the console. A deep frown on his face as he does so, which shows when he finally activates the video feed.

He then blinks once upon realizing that its broadcasting. Then, clearing his throat, he begins to speak in that deep voice of his.]

I am Chief Tonraq of the Southern Water Tribe, and I just recently arrived.

[This is hardly the best time for him to be here, but it looks like he has to deal with it.]

I've been told that others from my world are also here. I don't suppose any of you would know my daughter, Korra.

[His arrival had been rough and disorienting, but now that he's had a few days to recover, Zuko decides to introduce himself to the community at large.

The feed starts with a confused looking teenager with a big scar on the side of his face. He's staring for a moment before he speaks.]

Is this thing even working?

[He fiddles with it some more before he decides that yes, it is working.]

Uh, hello. Zuko here. I'm new and uh... I guess you guys already know that.

[He fidgets a little. There's also a look about him like he's definitely uneasy about something.]

So... I guess I will be here for awhile.

[Duh. Why is he so bad at this?]

[Now that the consoles and network are fully functional again and encryption is working, Rex figures it's a good a time as any to get in touch with his partners from their palace raid adventure. Since then, he's managed to get a little more information on what they found below in the prison. He's also managed to figure out the console encryption and get it up a bit over base, given his experience in working with tech. Additionally, the door from the private staircase leading into his housing sub-unit is shut so he won't be easily overheard by his housemates. (For as much as he'd like to share what he knows with Korra given the level of trust between them, he'd like to discuss it with Raine and Bakura first, since they were there with him in the prison.)]

So I know it's been a little while since we all talked, but after the housing change over, I ran into someone who's able to read kedanese. Both of you probably remember me snapping some photos of the, uh...well decorated walls in the prison.

[And at that point he holds up his cell phone, the lit screen displaying one of the photos he took, the cell wall covered in dark red tinted, shakily scrawled marks.]

According to a dude named Armin, the writing translates to stuff like "they're coming", "we're losing numbers" and "the experiments are becoming unbearable."

And given the little show we got down there [though hardly little at all, given what Bakura's powers were able to reveal in terms of the supernatural activity], looks like those experiments ended up being more than just "unbearable."

[It's clear from the look on his face that all this leaves Rex feeling somewhat uncomfortable.]

Safe to say we knew people had died and that the writing was probably a warning of some kind, but the translation really nails down what happened for sure.

Guess now the question is...who else needs to know this and what are we going to do about it?

[Because this really is the kind of thing that could cause further problems, especially among the kedan. Nothing like knowing your kind has been killed in the name of science or whatever else to cause fear, panic and anger.]

[Behind Luke is an organic-looking wooden wall, possibly recognizable as part of the console alcove in one of the Wood sector suites. He's evidently settled into his new quarters and it didn't take him long to figure out the technology of the console.

It's a bit archaic compared to what he's used to but it's simple enough. He would fiddle with it and see if he can give it an upgrade but he's been warned about the anti-tampering system in place, so he won't. For now.]

Hello. My name is Luke. [He intentionally leaves out his last name. Luke has no idea who he might meet here and his family's name has become associated with a lot of unpleasant things as of late. Better to be safe.] I've just arrived a couple weeks ago and the map of the city that I was given is helpful but not quite what I need at the moment. I want to ask if anyone takes regular trips up to the turtle's head and wouldn't mind a travel companion. It sounds like a place I'd like to visit soon.

I'd also like to offer my services. Where I come from I'm a guardian of the peace. Not necessarily affiliated with any government or law force... freelance, if you will. I help because I can. Please, call on me any time.

[Now that his powers have returned and he's had a few healing sessions Luke feels in much better sorts to be offering such services without hesitation at his own abilities.]

[An anonymous video post starts up, though that seems to be the only attempt the sender made to hide himself. In fact, he's in plain view, cautiously eating a bowl of the most common sweet food that didn't immediately repulse him. It becomes immediately obvious to everyone watching that the nearly middle-aged man simply forgot to log on out of sheer laziness. He starts talking calmly and casually, as though he was just chatting with a good friend.]

I just have to thank the generous souls that invited me over again for everything they've done. I swung by the place you set up and I just love what you've done to the place. My soul really just opens up the room, you know? Now, I would have gone for a mirror or a poster there, but hey, that's just me.

[He eats another spoonful. Everything about his demeanor stayed exactly the same, no matter how sarcastic that last remark was. By now, a kedan employee had noticed that someone had brought particularly sticky food to the console, and came over to check on him. Dante looks away from the console shoo him off.]

Look, I'm not messing up your thing. See? You can stop checking in every five minutes.

[The kedan walks away grumbling, and Dante looks back to the screen.]

As long as I'm here, let's talk business. I'm stuck here as long as that big, ugly whatever is up there in that castle, so please, explain to me exactly why the big bad whatever in that castle isn't dead yet? I appreciate that you saved the main event for me, but I'm sure the rest of you are chomping at the bit waiting for a piece of this thing.

[He's not casting dispersions, just the opposite. He would go charging into into the castle himself the moment he got his powers back, but there's one question nagging him: If there are so many powerful people here, why could none of them take care of this? Dante wasn't stupid enough to charge in there until he knew why the problem wasn't already dealt with.]

[Oh, except he forgot something he was hoping to put off for as long as possible. Well, might as well get it over with...]

Oh, and I guess I should ask, just in case I'm here for the long haul. Anyone know of a place someone can get a job with flexible hours? Judging by the way the locals are acting, I doubt opening up my old shop's going to work here. I was a bit of a freelancer back home, so I'd like to be able to set my own schedule.

[He'd usually just say "I like working once a week at best", but he actually has to worry about things like good impressions and not alienating people, since he no longer has an agent to do all of the socializing and damage control for him. He's very unused to it, but he thinks he did a good job. Okay, maybe he didn't do a good job, but he could have done worse.]

[the screen turns on to reveal Carlos in his ever-present lab coat, pushing his glasses up his nose as he nervously grins at the screen]

I believe this is the point where introductions are in order, so...my name is Carlos and I am a scientist. I am not of this world, but from what I have been told neither are any of you. I'll need to run some surveys on that later - scientifically speaking, other worlds are very exciting. I mean, I'm here in a world where an entire city can be built on the back of a giant turtle the size of - well I don't know what size yet, I'll need to run some tests, or maybe just find an accurate map - but it's got to be at least the size of Rhode Island! There are just so many rules of physics that this thing must be breaking! Like, how does a turtle that large even float? And that's just in this world, I can't even begin to hypothesise about what else might be...

[Carlos coughs, suddenly remembering that this is actually the time for introductions, and figuring out what on earth (or in this case, what on turtle) he is meant to be doing next, and not time for Science]

Um. Yes. But I can figure that all out later, I'll need time to organise a proper survey questionnaire anyway. In the meantime - this is me, hello [Carlos waves quickly], and I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me where to get food, groceries, that sort of thing. Also is all of this [Carlos waves around him to indicate the place he's been set up in] something paid for, or am I going to need to pay this all back? I meant to ask, but I kind of got distracted with all of my questions about the turtle.

Also I...I realise this is a long shot, but the last otherworldly universe I got stuck in had this fantastic wifi, and I didn't have to worry about my phone's battery dying either. Which meant being stuck in a desert that was not of this world wasn't so bad, because I could still ring home. That...that's not going to be possible here, is it? I mean, obviously if time is not passing in my world then there is no time in which anyone will be able to answer the phone, but I...I just thought I'd check. Just in case.

[The Network had been cleared of static and interference. But it was still not safe. Not from the enemy, and not from the public eye. Because of this, Aya could not trust it to deliver her message this day. Fortunately, that's what the Kent-Lane radio frequency was for.]

Greetings. I will attempt to keep this brief.

Thanks to the combined efforts of several technologically-proficient individuals, I am pleased to announce the official beta testing of a series of hand-held portable radios. These radios will be made available to any and all who seek a more secure method of contact with their fellow temporary Keelai residents. Each radio carries a unique interface identification signature, and operates on a frequency that--in theory--should be rendered invisible to the enemy.

However, as I can not currently guarantee the absolute certain of this, I must inform you that the distribution of these radios do, in fact, come with limitations. They operate on a single power cell that will last for twelve hours consecutively on full power, and will die without regular recharging. I must also strongly recommend they not be used on a regular basis, less the increase in activity lead to unwanted attention.

Those individuals who have worked tirelessly to make this happen, I wish to extend my most sincere gratitude. For everyone else...you are welcome to come to Stark Industries in order to pick up your mobile console at your earliest convenience. Any and all further questions will be answered in person.

Thank you.

((ooc: The post is fairly straight-forward; anybody who wishes their character to come into possession of one of these radios will not be turned away. All subsequent %radio posts may now receive network replies. However, while they are encrypted from Malicant, they are NOT able to be used for private encryptions between two individuals just yet, and thus, any conversation are viewable by anyone also in possession of a radio. If you have any further questions about how they work, you are welcome to PM me or contact me at [plurk.com profile] hina_mun))

[There's an odd crackle on the console screen. A few sparks that seem out of place with the usual static and blips. An obnoxiously loud hiss and a frantic series of bright lights and colours. Then the view starts to focus and stabilize, gradually growing clearer. And the face on the screen is a gruesome, bearded visage that has been oddly absent for a long while.]

Worthless piece of-...Ah? Ahah!

[The image still seems slightly overlaid with static and there's an odd after-image, not to mention a distinctly purple tinge to the whole thing. But the connection continuously clears up as Ixis Naugus appears to fiddle with the 'camera' and adjust a few things before leaning in close and speaking angrily.]

Can someone please explain to me what's been going on out there? A man can't focus on his research like this!

[ Curtly: ]

Morning. Kyle Rayner; Green Lantern Corps. I’ve been here fifteen months. For those of you new here, hi.

[ He inhales, bites his lip, glad it’s an audio feed, before continuing evenly: ]

So, the stuff they feed us about there being three planes isn’t BS. [ a faintly amused noise ] We’re on the Life plane. The others are Death, and Dreaming, and they’re accessible with the right gateway. Our enemy is said to live in the Death plane and control the environment there. We can’t recreate the original portals we found when the turtle stopped at Sinbrilee, but even so I wouldn’t really recommend sightseeing [ unless someone’s highly inclined towards raising hell, but Kyle doesn’t mention that, not even as a joke. ]. The Dreaming plane seems pretty harmless so far. We’ve done some exploring, here’s what we’ve got:

1. Any injuries you sustain there won’t heal automatically when you come back. We don’t know about dying but if you can get hurt there, you can die there too.
2. It changes depending on your subconscious. If someone else is in there with you, they can affect your environment if they try hard enough. I’d advise building some mental defences: meditation, et cetera… especially if you’re from a world that doesn’t have telepaths. If you need a hand with this, call me.
3. Eating and drinking works normally.
4. Powers - any kind - don’t work reliably and sometimes don’t work at all. Neither does technology.
5. You can enter and leave using different gateways no problem, doesn’t matter how far apart they are, but if you’ve only got the one, I’d say use it to get out. There’s plenty more gateways than the ones we got for research, but we don’t know where they are, and for all you know you could end up at one on the ocean floor.
6. The runes for all gateways have to be exact. Scraping one, even barely, shuts it down.
7. Don’t fall asleep there. You get stuck in your own nightmares - or somebody else’s - and it’s a pain in the ass to get out.
8. If something lives there, it’s pretty good at hiding.
9. Time’s much slower. A few days there could mean a few minutes here.

[ Beat. ]

If anybody else has got research they’d like to share, we’d appreciate hearing it.

[ click. ]

[100% encrypted | PRIVATE TO: ARTHUR CURRY, AYA, BILLY COSTIGAN, BUCKY BARNES (MCU), CLARK KENT, CONNOR HAWKE, DAMIAN WAYNE, DICK GRAYSON, GAIUS SEPTIMUS, JAIME REYES, & SHARON CARTER.]

I’m coming by with the full report. I’d appreciate your thoughts on it; let’s try to keep this stuff off-network. Our enemy has the advantage. - GL 2814.4

[ The message is hand-delivered. Included are Kyle’s sketches from Mark’s description regarding the previous batch of heroes present in Keeliai: a rough drawing of the being Tele, a tree-like creature, gesticulating, captioned as “tree people??”. There’s sketch of a woman with harsh features, one leg, and a cane. Several maps, too, showing campaigns; one describing an assault on the Death plane, and a final description at the end regarding the explosions destroying the city. ]

[ After a while, he also sends a copy to movie!Hal Jordan, but puts it in a sealed envelope and leaves before the man opens the door. ]

[Despite being on the turtle for nearly six months, this is Rictor's first video post. He's commented with video and audio, but has largely hidden behind anonymous consoles in cafes. What with Malicant having Network access and not trusting this whole politely-worded mass abduction, it's seemed prudent.

However, this post is going up as an unencrypted video feed, because he wants people to actually trust and use the code that he's come up with to help them, and not disregard it as a potential virus from the enemy.

He's typing at the keyboard as he talks.]

I'm attaching instructions to this, walking you through how to set up your console to ping someone else's mailbox if you haven't used your login to access the network in a set number of days. It feels like there's been an uptick in disappearances lately, and I haven't been the first one to notice.

Do your friends a favor and set this up so they don't have to ask if anyone's seen you and break into your place to see if it's been cleaned out yet. If you don't have any friends, do the rest of us a favor and set it up to somebody's box so we can keep track. Use that radio guy - Kent, or whatever his name is. Shit, use mine for all I care.

This song-and-dance of "I saw the kedan cleaning her place" out is bullshit, and only covers one kind of disappearance.

[The feed clicks on as Rex sits back in his chair, goggles hanging down around his neck and arms folded across his chest. He looks a little annoyed.]

Okay. So. Back of a giant turtle. War against some dude whose name we're not supposed to say. Get a job. The basics of the situation, right?

I gotta admit, ending up in some city that looks like it's part of an MMORPG was not where I thought I'd be after my day got off to such a great start. But seriously, who would think that? And not gonna lie, I did wonder for a while if maybe this is all some whacked out dream after taking a hit to the head in the middle of a fight.

[He shrugs, sighs and runs one hand back through his hair before sitting forward.]

Anyway. Since it seems like I might be here for a while...

My name's Rex Salazar. I happen to be really good with machines if anyone knows of any job openings around here that have to do with stuff like that. I've also done work as a bodyguard before. Fighting monsters and catching criminals? Got tons of experience with all that, too. I'm been assigned a place in the Metal Sector if that helps.

[Going quiet a moment, his frustrated expression becomes thoughtful. Maybe even a little hopeful.]

Also, while I realize this is probably a long shot? If there's a guy by the name of Six here, I'd appreciate it if someone would let me know if he's around. Doctor Holiday, too. Both or either of them. Or anyone from Providence, really.
