[VIDEO] Unity Call

[A familiar face to some appears on the screen, her gaze steady, though there's clearly an earnest plea below the calm.]

Hey, guys... it's been a while since I've done one of these, but...it's necessary.

[She takes a deep breath. The lies are starting to wear her down, as is the pressure to make things right again.]

Let's talk about Milyn.

[Pause. She's got to be careful what she says... she doesn't want to give anyone away. All the more reason to hate being caught up in something.]

There were a few of us who made it to the scene after the attack, and we've all been shaken by what has happened, but this isn't finished yet. The one who stabbed Milyn has disappeared, and now Yunxu's been attacked, too.

[Nevermind that it was her boyfriend that attacked him, but at least they've gotten some more information out of it. She does her best not to frown even more than she is now.]

Here's the problem: I'm not going to be able to find anything out on my own and neither is anyone else. I'm sure there are others who are also trying to figure out why this happened and if the two attacks are connected, so...would anyone be willing to meet up and talk things out, or even share information openly? If we're going to accomplish anything, we're going to have to work together, and really...I just want to get to the bottom of this, before someone else gets hurt...or killed.

[Awkward pause, and a soft sigh. At least that's over with. Now her gaze steadies a bit more.]

A side bit--ah, potentially unrelated: Has anyone seen Meisheng lately?

((Ooc: Pepper will be taking over and answering for Dove, as I am most likely dropping the game entirely due to personal reasons. Thank you for the lovely tags!))

[When last Emma graced the network, she had been looking for a salon, and either found one or is making do brilliantly, because she's as put together as ever, though this time her expression is more serious.]

It's come to my attention that the late Dr. Lecter was a psychiatrist. If any of his patients want to continue counseling, I'm a licensed therapist. [Sex therapy totally counts.] I don't actively practice anymore--I'm a schoolteacher--but I'd be willing to hold sessions if there's a need.

[She pauses and her expression gets a bit wry.]

It's entirely understandable if the man damaged anyone's opinion of the profession, but I assure you, we're not all serial killers.

[History of supervillainry and general manipulativeness aside, Emma is in fact a perfectly good therapist if she isn't trying to break up your marriage.]

I'm requesting help moving old equipment back to the free clinic in the Earth sector.

[ An almost two months had passed with more than enough fanfare to last more than one lifetime, but Amon was largely ignorant to it all as he showed up on the network in his now emptied out apartment. The mask that had been broken some time ago was again covering his face and any emotion behind it; his features frozen in that same, blank porcelain smile. ]

I'm aware that it works almost exclusively with kedan too poor to go elsewhere, but if anyone here were seeking to build sturdier bridges among the local populace then now is your chance. The news a permanent hospital is being constructed in place of doctor Soranik's old clinic has reached my ears, but you'll forgive me if I was too busy collecting myself after finding myself here once again.

[ Amon taps on the hard wood of his desk - one of the only pieces of furniture left behind after his sudden departure. ]

On that subject: Has anyone else experienced a return? To Keelai, I mean. I'm interested if it's common place, or if there are any adverse effects.

Hi. My name’s. Korra. I’m the Avatar.

[There’s an awkward pause before she says her name. The cadence in her words is a bit off, a combination of never using the network before (or not that she can recall) and the unknown expectation of who will answer.]

Some of you may know me, I guess?

[Guh, she hates trying to cover it and just tackles the heart of the message.]

Look. I can’t remember anything since I was ghosted. [Or whatever the hell people are calling it.] Not this city, this turtle, or anyone.

But a doctor said that if I just hang around familiar things and people, even scents, then it might help me remember some things. I just, can’t force myself to remember them. So if you recognize me or know something else that could help I’d be grateful.

[Alcuin had sat down at his console to ask his fellow Foreigners a perfectly innocent question, only to be greeted by Malicant. He's shaken, though it only shows in the way his voice carries a little more asperity than usual.]

Whether it was ignorance or malice that caused someone to summon that here, I hope they have learned better- though indeed, such knowledge would seem to come too late.

[He shakes his head. Never mind. There's little to be done about it now.]

But that was not the matter I intended to speak of. I seek someone with the knowledge of how to care for young trees, for I have found one and know little of their husbandry.

[Nita is looking perkier than she has since the Malicant mess started. She's also looking moist, since, with the return of her gills, she's been spending most of her time underwater, and only came up now to make a network post. And, last of all, she's looking concerned, because there's something that's been bothering her, and she just can't figure it out.]

I'm not even close to a magical theorist or anything, and there's gotta be someone who knows more about this stuff than I do... I have a question.

How did some of us lose things we always had? Like, I understand, sort of, how Captain America--sorry, Cap, I'm gonna use you as an example--could lose his powers, 'cause he got them from an experiment. I even kind of get how mutant powers like my ankle wings could go away, because they're genetic but they're not really normal. But my gills--and the other Atlanteans' gills--closed up! That's not special! Every member of our species has those!

What's going on with this place that it can take away ordinary things?

004 ◉ audio; dated to the 14th

[ The audio clicks on and there's a long pause. When Kyle speaks, his tone is calm, perfectly controlled. It's his Business Voice, blank save for the barest hint of anger. ]

This is Kyle Rayner of the Green Lantern Corps. I apologise for the inconvenience, but our clinic at EA-3B is currently undergoing repairs and won't be able to take more patients at this time. We'll be temporarily operating a backup at WA-1A. [ He attaches a map, showing where it is. ]

Any and all hands with medical experience or healing abilities are always welcome.

[ Another long pause. ]

And if someone could come collect Avatar Korra, that would be appreciated.

[ There is a brief pause, as though he's debating what more to say, before the audio clicks off. ]

[Nita has been uncharacteristically absent from, well, everything lately, because she's been curled up on the couch having an identity crisis. But now she's on the network! She looks fine, if disgruntled. Unusually for her, she's posting from a console cafe, in Fire Sector if the view behind her is anything to go by.]

Uh. Can someone come get me? I can't navigate on the ground.

[Yeah, she managed to wander, on foot, as far from her apartment as it's possible to be and still be in Keeliai, and she's finally given up on finding her own way home because everything looks the same. Good job, Nita.]

Verse 07 -- Voice

[The feed's just a voice one today. Jehan wants it to be quick and to the point]

I apologize for this announcement, as it could not possibly come at a worse time, but I feel it is my duty as his friend to let others know. If you knew Grantaire, he is no longer here. It is possible that his disappearance is connected to the rapid decay of Asti in these last few days though I do not think that is likely to be the cause.

[Still, you never know.]

It would not hurt to keep in contact with friends here, should this illness lead to more disappearances.

[ There is a blast of static before the video feed clicks on. The only elaborate thing he owned that stood out against all the drab issued-on-arrival furniture that dotted his bare as bones suite was a cherry wood desk. Laid out on its surface was a gutted and dissected glove that looks to be made of metal and snaking cords of copper. Even behind that white wood mask he looked displeased with whatever project lay the electric glove in pieces. ]

While experimenting with finding alternate power sources for these devices in the wake of yet another series of tragedies and misfortunes, I decided to turn my attention elsewhere. Not to arsenal but to my fellow foreigners.

The divide between those who possess preternatural and even god-like abilities and those who do not is wide, and I find this distressing. While we are all unequal in the eyes of the Emperor I believe she does wish us to be capable of standing on our own two feet whenever the next cataclysmic event occurs, or whenever the supposed apocalypse fires start.

Taking time away from my free clinic in the Earth sector I will start offering to teach those with little to no formal training in the basics of martial arts: specifically, chi-blocking and hand to hand, closed quarters combat. Without demonstration I can best describe chi-blocking to the uninformed as a school of martial arts that places emphasis on temporarily rendering muscle function useless and even dampening chi or energy based powers. If nothing else, those who feel defenceless can take some initiative.

Kyle Rayner has agreed to supply rooms at EA-3B for training a small number of students at a time so I won't be far from my clinic. In the meantime I hope to attract a small student body and cooperate with anyone here who has experience in close-quarters combat and/or martial arts. It would be best to introduce something so demanding and exact as chi-blocking slowly. A sort of teacher-student arrangement.

I will be taking names of interested foreigners and answering any questions through my personal console, or in person at my clinic.

It's entirely up to you, but I must insist you take up these lessons.

[Hello, Keeliai, it's your friendly neighborhood Atlantean princess who acts like an American college student.]

So, most of the..."satellite" is really not the word--it's basically a space station--is about forty feet underwater. There's some scattered stuff deeper, but we water-breathers can take care of rounding up those bits. If any air-breathers, especially you techy types, want to go exploring, I got Mr. Stark to whip up a few sets of breathing gear real quick.

[She holds up some scuba equipment, which seems deceptively light in her hands, given that those tanks can weigh a good 50 pounds when full.]

You don't have to worry about getting scuba-certified or anything. It's not deep enough that you need any of those weird gas mixes or that ascending too fast would kill you. I'll go down with anybody who wants and make sure nothing bad happens.

Fourth Post [video]

[Sabriel looks exhausted but also strangely energized, like she's drunk several cups of coffee. There's a book in the background- oddly the writing on the spine is in the kedan language, instead of English.]

Several nights ago I was attacked by the man calling himself Amon. He had.. some kind of ability to control my body. [And Sabriel's expression hardens.] I made sure he cannot use that power any more. [Although she wasn't expecting was that Amon would thank her for it.]

There are several other things I'd like to discuss. I know the kedan are becoming hostile again, and we have learned that we were brought here to battle something powerful, and that not everyone here has the ability to fight.

[Sabriel holds up her hand, and traces a glowing symbol in the air that quickly begins to fade.]

I am a Charter mage, and and I can give others the ability to use the same magic I do. Charter magic can be used to heal, to defend, to attack, and to bind. If you're interested in learning, I will teach you. [Sabriel regards the camera quite seriously. It's been brought up enough that she feels the need to address one concern she's heard.] And if you attempt to abuse that power, I will stop you.

And has anyone heard from Cosette? She didn't show up for her lesson. [Amon's attack is still fresh in Sabriel's mind, and she's starting to worry something similar might have happened to Cosette.]

[Locked to her students; 30% encryption]

I've spoken with Iorveth, and I believe there's something we can do to help with what we were brought here to do.

I want to start teaching all of you about binding spells- I'll explain more when we meet in person, but I think this is the best way we can help Tu Vishan.

[Locked to Iorveth; 30% encryption]

I've learned a little more about what we're meant to face. [And then Sabriel actually smiles.] And something that might be of even more use.

[ooc: Replies may also come from Amon, who's still hanging out in Sabriel's suite.]

[Hello turtle, it's Nita, looking blond and perky, per the usual. She is, unbeknownst to the object of her not-very-complicated plan, helping.]

Who here can get hit by a speeding tractor trailer and shake it off? ...Or for those of you from universes that don't have cars, uh...get hit by an angry dragon, I guess.

[She realizes that maybe that's a weird question, and adds:]

...Asking for a friend.

[No, really. Hi, Dr. Banner!]

Not for anything nefarious, unless you think meeting new people is nefarious.

[And in that case, she can't help you.]

002 Audio - The One Where Mike Tries To Barter

So...okay. Here's the thing. I can live frugal. I'm good at living frugal. There are fewer people out there who can dumpster dive as efficiently as I can. Trust me, my stone soup? Is amazing. I can make a Reclaimed Tuna Casserole Surprise that will knock your socks off.

As awesome as I am, even I can't make something from literally nothing, which is kind of what I've got at the moment. I say kind of because I have a whole bunch of little pots of home-made Floating Fruit preserves, jams, and jellies, and now that I'm officially out of money, I'm looking to trade them for...anything edible that isn't floating fruit. I've had my fill, thanks.

So, anyone out there interesting in jam for say...chocolate?
Or jam for bread?
Or jam for...seriously, anything.

I have recently come into possession of a copy of a map of this place. It is no greatly detailed thing, more of a topographical map than any thing else. A thought occurs, however; who has seen more than vague maps of this place? If there are so many foreigners here, would not detailed maps be quite helpful? It seems as though things may be hidden; I should like to know your theories.

A note, as well -- I have not yet mastered the art of making an entry on these devices private. Is there a way to do so?

[ Hey! Other people on the turtle! The screen blinks on and there's a ratty blonde boy. Familiar, no doubt--he's never at one place for too long, and he's constantly running around the city. It's likely you've seen him on the street. ]

S'Gavroche! Gotta question for yas. [ What a nice way to greet people. This had been on his mind, though. Since Cosette mentioned it, and even moreso due to the events on Atam. There's a few bruises and scrapes on his face, but his nose is looking a little purple, swelling. Possibly broken. He seems undeterred at this--or the fact that he's absolutely filthy. Actually, there's pretty much nothing in the house he logged in to the network on--he doesn't really use it at all. ]

Little inquiry, huh? Lil' bit. [ He rolls his shoulders, and for the first time he looks a little anxious. ] Y'know your worlds, yeah? I wanna talk to someone what lives in Earth, an' knows Paris. Gotta bit-- [ Okay, now you're repeating yourself, Gavroche. Try not to look so nervous! You're proud of who you are and what you did.

So, cautiously, the Gamin flashes a smile.
]

The--uh. Around June 6, there was a rebellion, yeah? 'Gainst the King. [ Absentmindedly, he touches his little rosette pin with the colours of the French flag. ]

We--they--overthrew 'im, right? An' did it follow through? Y'got a King in France?

005 // Video

As you may know, Mr. Wayne recently brought the idea of a foreigner-lead council up again. This was something I was working on before my untimely disappearance, and I agree that it is a good time to try again. I am in full support of this idea, and the current proposal was one representative from each sector if we get enough volunteers.

I understand some of you have concerns with the idea of a council, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Now more than ever I think it's important that we are adequately represented.

...As well, it has come to my attention that certain events have recently transpired involving my brother. Noatak - or Amon, if you know him by that name.

As some of you were not present for my last warning on the subject: I strongly advise anyone to refrain from getting involved in his affairs. He is extremely dangerous, no matter how he acts. As I said, I am his brother, and I am certain I know him better than anyone else here. He is a bloodbender and he will not hesitate to destroy you if you get in his way, no matter who you are.

I can't stop anyone from getting involved with him, but please use caution.

[Private to Noatak]

I'm sorry, but I believe this is for your own good.

[The acute observer may notice two things different about Alcuin. The first is that there's a faint pattern of lines on his forehead that seem to form some kind of mark. The second is the bruise on his temple- the edges are fading to yellow and green, but it's still dark purple at the heart, though somewhat hidden under his hair.

But he doesn't seem to be minding either of them, instead looking pleased as he holds a small book in his hands.]

Some of the fruits of our docking at that city were sweeter than others.

[That's a joke. Definitely a joke. He hasn't been in evidence much, besides going to work everyday. Landfall was rough.]

A friend of mine was kind enough to gift me one of his discoveries- a book of poems written by my lover, Anafiel Delaunay. I cannot guess how it came to be there, but I am so glad that it was.

[He runs his fingers over the cover fondly.]

You see, back at home these poems were banned. It was unlawful to speak them aloud, or even to own a copy- not through any fault of the poetry, there were politics involved. But I would like to read you one of them, one of my favourites. It will be the first time that it has been spoken in public in many years.

Cut for length and vague sexual content. )

[He closes the book, smiling softly- caught in a reminiscence of Delaunay. After a moment, he remembers the camera and turns it off.]

004 | video

[This is only a video because Grantaire can't be bothered to fuss with his console right now. Getting onto the system's been difficult enough as is, with how much loathing his more sober, withdrawing self has for the rest of humanity and the like. It doesn't help, of course, that he's been spending every other morning bent over the toilet since his best attempts at rationing his own stash of wine and spirits began to fail. He may have never heard the term porcelain altar before, but he understands the sentiment deeply.

Now though, he's laughing. Not with amusement, but with a disgusted grimace that comes with a dark sense of irony. He's pale, doesn't look nearly as well as he did before, what with his body has been going through since the turtle-wide rationing began. His face is swollen around his eye and nose, and there's blood crusted around his nose and in his mouth. Alcohol withdrawal wasn't the only cause of his current state.]

Bien sur, this would happen the first time I've gone out in days. This is lovely. [His voice dripping with sarcasm, he spits blood into the napkin in his hand before pointing at his face.] This is what your amicable natives do to foreigners when stability begins to crumble. Vagrants are always the first to be blamed when the world goes to shit, and anyone who expects any differently is lying to themselves and everyone around them. Hopeful, optimistic lies like that get the innocent and naive killed. Luckily, I'm neither innocent nor naive, and can handle being bloodied by mongrels every so often. I only hope that I've not broken another tooth.

[He doesn't even bother signing off properly or with any salutation. He just shuts the connection with a wince and a roll of his eyes.]

[ Amon comes into view; he sits at a cherry wood desk that is an elegant piece with waving designs carved into the wood. So faddish that it appeared to enjoy a pride of place against his otherwise spartan suite. On it before him are two glasses. In one glass is crystal clear water catching the light coming in from an unseen window, and in the other is a murky sludge with black sediment at the bottom.

With no preamble Amon opens proceeds to delve right into the matter at hand.
]

Efforts are being made to clean the water that suffered the worst of the pollution in the Water Sector. I bring this to your attention because I'll be seeing to it that there is water safe for consumption made available to the clinic I work at in the Earth Sector, and in any homes here in the Water Sector as it never hurts to have an emergency supply on hand should rationing start up again. Or should you wish to have water on hand when making the trip off the turtle now that another landfall is on the horizon.

That still leaves the deplorable state of public waterways here, but we're doing what we can. You have one Namorita Prentiss to thank for spearheading the initiative; I am merely playing my part.

[ There is a brief lull as Amon shifts in his seat. The only movement he's made throughout his little spiel as the mask obviously obscured any facial expressions. ]

Something else I wanted to touch on that is unrelated to recent events. It occurs to me that, among the foreigners, English is the dominant language. For someone whose native language is far removed from English, specifically Mandarin Chinese, I find text posts and anything written to be an obvious challenge. [ If this confession is an embarrassment for him it doesn't show, not even in his tone of voice. ]

I find it in our best interests to be on common ground in any possible respect, and that includes communication. If there are any native English speakers willing to take on a student I would be forever indebted to them.

Also, I invite others who share my problem to consider my proposal of broadening their grasp of written English. Might come in handy down the road as this place is quick to remind us that nothing is for certain. One of these days we could very well be faced with another crisis, and one that impinges on our ability to communicate.
