[ Hi Turtletopia, meet Kyle. He’s wearing a sleeveless deep green shirt, with the words YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A STUBBORN JERK TO WORK HERE, BUT IT HELPS beneath the Lantern insignia. He’s leaning back in the chair, looking a lot more cheerful than he’s been over the past month. As always, he’s wearing his ring on his right hand. He’s broadcasting from an Earth Sector suite, quite utilitarian save for several maps and diagrams of flora and fauna that have been pinned to the walls, all of which are extremely detailed, a few of which are not finished.

He gives the screen a small wave and begins to speak, his tone even, matter-of-fact, self-assured. It’s not overbearing, but distinctly that of someone who, when he speaks, is used to being listened to, and obeyed.
]

Astrid Farnsworth is missing. [ A text document with her photograph and physical description is attached. There is a very brief clench of his jaw before he starts speaking again. ] If she owed you any debts, made any promises, let me know. Anyone who wants to pick up where she left off with the bakery in Water Sector now, it’s all yours.

[ Moving on. ]

Secondly, for those of you who need equipment, and don’t have the money or means to acquire it [ Constructs of a feather duster, an M16 rifle, and what looks like a portable electricity generator appear and disappear in quick succession. ] I can make pretty much anything, it’s all solid and it works just like ordinary stuff. [ Wryly: ] My sewing machines have been making your clothes for quite a while. [ Beat. ] If it’s new, don’t worry, I’m a quick learner. Size, complexity, not a problem. [ Another pause. ] It’s not permanent, just a stopgap measure if you’re in a tight spot and need a hand. Or five. [ On cue, five hands appear, wave merrily, and disappear. ]

Thirdly, if you have scanners, I’d like to know what you discovered when you tried to use them on the barrier. If you haven’t tried yet, I’d be happy to offer a lift so that we can make an attempt. To our magic users, this extends to you too. By magic, I don’t mean technology so advanced it can be misconstrued as magic, I mean [ emphasizes each word: ] actual proper magic. [ He frowns a little. ] Actually, I’d be interested to know what all of you feel specifically when you are around the barrier or trying to get through it. And just a word of advice, don’t try to fly through it. It’s pretty painful and the water’s cold. [ :/ ]

That’s all.

[ A pause. ]

Right. For those of you who’re new here. Hi. Kyle Rayner, Green Lantern Corps. Y’know. [ Self-deprecating smile. ] If you need a book moved from a tall shelf or something, the Lighthouse is at EA-3B.

[ A small two-finger salute, and signing off. ]

[Hello turtle, it's Nita, looking blond and perky, per the usual. She is, unbeknownst to the object of her not-very-complicated plan, helping.]

Who here can get hit by a speeding tractor trailer and shake it off? ...Or for those of you from universes that don't have cars, uh...get hit by an angry dragon, I guess.

[She realizes that maybe that's a weird question, and adds:]

...Asking for a friend.

[No, really. Hi, Dr. Banner!]

Not for anything nefarious, unless you think meeting new people is nefarious.

[And in that case, she can't help you.]

Hi, everyone. [ a quick, cheerful wave and matching smile. ] I'm Caroline Forbes, and I was wondering if I can help anybody here with anything.

Back home, I'm basically my town's event-coordinator and the junior head of community service. Additionally, I'm an experienced sober coach [ ha. ] and a relatively experienced life coach [ unlife coach. ]. So, if you're suffering from the turtle island blues, then I can totally help you change your tune. I also happen to be a grade 'A' body guard [ which may be surprising, considering her...everything. ]  and an awesome shopping buddy.

I'm kind of a superhero, too, I guess, except more super than hero. [ another smile. She's fitting in with the crowd. There are plenty of superheroes around, right? Nothing special to see here. ] I mean, I don't really do much for the greater good, but I can mess with people's dreams — and I know that a lot of you guys have bad insomnia or suffer from nightmares, at least.

So, if you'd like to, y'know, dream of fluffy kittens and rainbows for a change, I can help with that.

[Reno looks fairly different from how he usually is on the network. Usually he's a bit more... Friendly. Carefree, even. (Initial post notwithstanding, of course.) Today he's serious, downright pensive perhaps. A bit troubled because a) he'd really not like to be making posts on the network at all, but also because he's 100% paranoid sure the Emperor or someone is probably keeping tabs on what they say on here.

There's no other way to go about it really, alas.]

So I've got a few questions.

[he holds up a finger, numbering each one as he goes]

One: How many of you have asked the Emperor for access to her library?

Two: How many of you have actually been granted access?

And three: How many of you have found anything that is - even by a stretch of the imagination - useful?

[He leans back in his seat and takes a sip of his tea (he's in a console cafe in Water, for the curious.) It's not bad, though maybe he's just not enough of a tea drinker to care. Anyway, he purses his lips in thought for a moment before his expression settles into an easy smile.]

"Now Reno," I hear you say, "what even counts as 'useful'? And what kind of question is this anyway?" And the short answer to that is that I have no idea. [he shrugs for emphasis] I imagine we all have a lot of different priorities here, everyone's gonna zero in on something different. Hence 'even by a stretch of the imagination'. Hell, you don't even need to tell me what it is. If it seems relevant enough to you, it's relevant enough to this impromptu survey of mine.

Just, I occasionally hear people talking about it like it's this holy grail of information, and I'm wondering if maybe we shouldn't be looking somewhere else. Not least until people start getting literate in the local languages.
