[Sabriel looks exhausted, but there's a certain note of satisfaction in her voice as she speaks.]

Atam was... interesting. I found several rather interesting things there. [Two of them are laid out behind her- a trident and a sword.] Including two books of Charter Magic from my own world. The shopkeeper said he simply found them one day, which brings me to my next point. [A brief look of anxiety comes over Sabriel's face, and her tone becomes something between a student giving a presentation and a teacher giving a lecture.]

I know the kedan are unfriendly, and that many here cannot defend themselves. Since I was a child, I have been taught how to wield a sword, and was tutored at my school in the basics of sorcery, and I want to share that knowledge with those who may need it to protect themselves.

[And Sabriel's long white fingers trace a glowing symbol in the air- the mark for light, to be specific, and lets it collapse into a bright pinpoint of light, illuminating the room.]

Charter Magic is not a toy, and can be a powerful tool in the hands of the skilled- a tool to harm, create, heal... or do many other things, if you know the correct symbols and have the power to use them properly.

[Sabriel lets herself relax a little.]

If anyone has any questions or would like a further demonstration, I would be happy to answer any such request here. And I have one inquiry of my own- is there any business in Keeliai that will hire foreigners?

[ooc: More info here (And please comment so I can keep track of how many people have already signed up) and here, for more info. Comment in either entry for ooc questions!]

( It’s a voice post, scratchy at first as Rogue clears her throat. )

Ah, hello. Y’all really know how to make a girl feel welcome, don’t you? The view in this place… it’s fantastic. ( They obviously can’t see the view, but she’s sitting on one of the upper levels in an apartment in the Wood Sector. The view is fantastic. )

Everyone’s been real helpful, so far, but there’s something I need that I couldn’t ask the tour guides about… not without explaining, at least.

( If the video was on, her bright red cheeks would be entirely visible. Which may be the reason it isn’t on, come to think of it. )

I need some other clothes. Anything long, with sleeves… and gloves. I’d get it myself, but. I can’t. I know there’s a market near here, and if you’re willing I’ll give you my size and…

If you could bring it here, where it’s less crowded, it’d be better. I’ll pay you back, help you out with something if you need it. And I’d be real grateful.

[When the video opens on Bruce, much of his 'friendly neighborhood playboy' demeanour is muted. He looks a little more serious than normal, though his tone and expression remain congenial enough.]

As some of you may have noticed, passports have been delivered to our suites. It's very likely that these herald another landfall, and given the fact that our population is significantly increased from what it was in November, I'd like to warn people about what we might encounter.

[Attached is a file, landfall.doc. It contains things like details on the llothi, the mausoleum, the ruins, the temperature, sorts of plants found, soil samples, etc.]

You have Miranda Lawson to thank for those. Sadly, she's no longer among us, but I doubt she'd want her research to go to waste.

[A slight pause, barely notable before he continues.]

And that brings me to my second point of business. At one time, a foreigner was keeping a list of people we might be looking for in the event that they arrive. However, I think it's past due we started a compilation of the names of those that have left us. Since disappearing from this place seems an almost instantaneous process, it could be weeks or even months before we become aware of some people's departure, and I believe that process is best expedited for everyone's sake. Most recently, at least to my knowledge, we've lost Miranda Lawson, Favrielle nό Eglantine and Lina Inverse.

[Not mentioning Jason Todd? Not mentioning Jason Todd.]

I'd appreciate any other names you might have.

Additionally, given the current state of Keeliai, I think it's an opportune time to rekindle the idea for a Foreigner-lead council. Councilman Tarrlok, a word to that effect? I think an elected representative from each Sector would be a good place to start.

And if there is anyone well-suited to the role, I'm happy to hold nominations.

[Kal-El seems to be posting from a cafe in the water sector, judging by his surroundings. A cafe that has seen better days. Kal's face makes it obvious he wasn't expecting the cafe to be in such a state when he got there, seeing all this go on without being able to help is really hitting him hard.]

Superman here. I'm aware the rationing is the hot topic nowadays but there isn't... much I can do about that. I will do my best to help out Roger's food bank and if anyone needs me to do so don't hesitate to contact me but for now you will have to forgive me for deviating from the topic.

This last month I have noticed a lot of foreigners that happened to have powers with them that were... not sure what to do with them at best, outright scared of them at worse. I want to help with that.

I am a super-powered being myself, we are called 'metahumans' in my world. I was thinking maybe there should be some kind of... way for us to meet, to talk about our problems. To train each other if our powers are similar, to help us out when it's needed. I'm not sure where I was going with this but that... well, that was my suggestion.

[A little shrug and a smile] I would like to hear people's opinion in it?

[Private to Evandau]

I was told you were in charge of the rationing?

[Oh look, Arthur is showing his face on the network today. Unlike some of his companions, he prefers the "out in the open" alias. His face is pleasantly neutral, if a bit, well, curious.]

I'm kind of wondering here, how many others are regular insomnia sufferers? I've been dealing with this for quite a while, myself, maybe we can exchange tips and tricks for handling it.

Also, call it academic curiosity, but has anyone experienced major changes in their sleep cycles or habits since arriving here? I know, I know, I get the whole spiel about being between life and death and dreaming. It's just that - when I do sleep, I'm a lucid dreamer. But that's changed since I showed up here. [White lie - he doesn't dream at all without the assistance of drugs, but that's neither here nor there.

He looks like he's about to end the feed, but then remembers something else.]

Oh, right. I'm Arthur, by the way. I'm putting together a small private security firm. I know things are tight right now, with rationing and all, but my rates are variable and I'm happy to do a free consult - small businesses, personal security, event stuff, whatever you've got.

[Private - Cobb, Eames, Ariadne (dreamshare encryption 95%)]

I'm hiring Billy Costigan. Don't even start, I know it's a risk. The guy is way too interested in us for my taste. We need to figure out why and how to deal with it.

[ Caroline has been lurking, as much as she hates to admit it. She has been exhibiting Stereotypical, Creepy Vampire Behavior, and she is so not thrilled about it. Sneaking around, watching people — the works. This place is entirely unfamiliar to her, and she needs to deal with certain dietary concerns before she can even begin thinking of anything else.

Breathe, she thinks. Play it cool. What would Stefan do? He'd be careful, subtle.

He wouldn't want anything to trace back to him. ]

But this could be important.]

So, um. Some of you know I - went to the mines. In the mountains. Got back yesterday.

Didn't...find much. Carts, that they used. [The smile fades.] And...bodies. That were just...left there. [She'd considered bringing them back, even if she had to do it one at a time, but she didn't know if that would be...disrespectful.]

Looked like - they fell, usually. Didn't see any, um. Foul play.

Is uh, this thing on?

[ Jason stares uneasily into the screen, eyes flickering from side to side back to device rapidly, almost as if he’s afraid he’s about to be ambushed at any moment. ]

I’m— Jesus. Fuck. I’m actually not Jesus, but I'm lost, and I know this is gonna sound crazy, but is any of this real? I’m not on shrooms, I haven’t done anything lately, and— Jesus.

[ his breath speeds up rapidly for a few seconds, before he finds his zen and calms down. Think of it as facetime, Jason. You’re using your iphone and talking to people and this is perfectly normal. Act natural, and nothing bad will happen. He cracks a small smile at the screen, although the warmth doesn't reach his eyes completely. ]

[Clark looks far less... cheerful than he did the last time he talked to the network. And far less cheerful than most people have actually seen him ever since appeared on the turtle. Probably because he actually hadn't had a reason to get this angry ever since he got here.]

It's become obvious thanks to latest... announcements made by the Emperor that until we're needed we will be on our own in this place and we will actually be unwanted when it comes to dealing with certain things. Well, let it be so.

Some of you might remember my idea of doing some kind of podcast for a newspaper, a way to let the news reach us all easily since the Kedan don't seem to have anything like that. Using the network they have given us is not an option anymore, not if we want to do it efficiently and in a private way. Not if we want to make sure any news they might deem 'irrelevant' or 'not our business' get out out.

[He's had experience with that, hi there Lex.]

So I need people who know about engineering and machinery. I'd like to see if it's possible to actually build a Radio station, and the transmitters and everything we would need for it. The money will not be a problem as long as you're reasonable about it, nor will the resources.

I guess... I am offering anyone who'd be able to build it a job.

[The video starts slightly awkwardly, with a blur of movement and Steph reaching up to grab something from the top of the console. There's a bit of a struggle, some muttered words, until she's finally back in place, now with a squirming kitten in her arms.]

Right. Hi. [She smiles, looking a little overwhelmed; she's been chasing the cat around all morning.] I found this little one stuck up in a tree, and something tells me she's not a native.

I'm gonna guess she came from someone's home world, since I know other people got pets from home while on the mainland, but, uh, she doesn't have a collar or anything... [she was going somehere with that but she got a little distracted by the kitten trying to climb her arm.] This is my version of a 'Found' poster, I suppose. If she's yours - [Steph holds up the kitten to the screen, though it seems more interested in chewing on her fingers] - let me know, please.

[A beat, as the kitten wriggles out from her hands and runs off to go chase something around her suite. She lets it go, since she's already displayed it decently for the potential owner to see it] If it doesn't belong to anyone, then, um, I might need advice on how to look after a kitten, since apparently I've just acquired myself one.

[She's not sure how she feels about that, since she's already kind of fond of the thing, but also. cats. So she just gives a helpless looking shrug and turns off the feed.]

[Reid hates technology. No, he really, genuinely does. Computers don't move fast enough to keep up with him, and he has a long-established love of hard copies where literature is concerned. But the fact of the matter is, there are very few books here. So here he is, seated at a console, half a dozen of the local books he could find stacked beside him and several empty coffee cups as well. Recently, he's taken to drinking green tea, but a lapse in that particular habit seems appropriate considering his surroundings.]

You know, the terminology relating to a meta or 'multiverse' was originally coined by William James, a philosopher and psychologist in the late nineteen hundreds. His paper, titled 'Is Life Worth Living?' was published in the 1985 October Edition of the International Journal of Ethics. He postulated that, with the decline of social religion all 'visible' nature (that is to say, everything we see and experience) is in and of itself a 'moral' multiverse as opposed to being a moral 'universe'. He was referring to the visible nature of the world - good existing alongside evil, with every imaginable shade in between. Each nuance of the world then became in and of itself a 'multiverse' in James' ideal.

The neologism didn't actually enter into common vernacular until much later and under a drastically different context, but the concept of other worlds or parallel universes - what we today call a 'multiverse' - has actually been around for centuries, generally tied to religious philosophies of the time. Muslim theologian al-Ghazālī believed that it was not only possible but highly probable. His extrapolation was that that Earth was the best of all possible worlds and that humans occupied it as a form of divine right, stating that 'there is in possibility nothing more wondrous than what is'.

[a brief pause, because... he's generally not used to speaking so long without interruption.]

Essentially, the concept of a 'life, death or dreaming' state faintly echoes several Buddhist or Hindu philosophies, though equally suggestive of liminality. The continual repetition of that 'life/death/dreaming' theme represents a trinity; three is often considered a holy number in any number of doctrines. Three also represents the body (life), the soul (death) and the spirit (dreaming). And then, the fact that there are five districts also reinforces the ties to numerology. If you go by the numerical value of the Hebrew letter 'He' or 'five' it symbolizes the universal life, the breath of man, the air, the spirit and the soul.

Oh-- right, liminality. Liminality was another word coined in the same philosophical era as William James' 'multiverse' by Arnold Vann Gennep in his 1908 paper Rites de Passage. It's from the Latin līmen which means 'threshold' and it's a word used to describe the transitionary phase during a ritualistic transformation, during which the participant's own identity is considered to be void until the process is complete and the individual can be reborn. It's almost a contract – during this process you forsake your identity, your sense of self, your titles and earthly possessions all for the sake of a form of theoretical transcendental enlightenment. It's this fluidity of self that enables change and dissolution of old habits or customs to make way for the new. It's not limited to an individual, either; it can be applied to groups of people – such as a graduating highschool class – or to societies and cultures as a whole and I believe it's what we're technically undergoing now.

Liminality is considered a tripartite structure, and each segment of that structure is as follows: preliminal rites, or rites of separation. This stage involves a metaphorical 'death' undergone by the initiand. They're essentially forced to leave something behind by breaking away from previous practices and routines, or by, say, coming to Keeliai.

The liminal rites – or transitionary rites – involve the creation of a sort of... tabula rasa, a blank slate, through the removal of limits and forms previously taken for granted. There are two primary characteristics to this stage of the rite, first: the rite 'must follow a strictly prescribed sequence, where everybody knows what to do and how'. Because this rite is a fundamental deconstruction of the self and self-held values, it's meant quite literally to mirror the act of walking over a threshold between two worlds.

The postliminal rites, or 'rites of incorporation' are the third and final sequence. During this stage, the initiand is re-incorporated into society, essentially born again as a 'new' being.

[CRICKETS. CRICKETS ARE CHIRPING IN THE BACKGROUND, REID. He awkwardly clears his throat.]

All... right so... um, hi. I'm Doctor Spencer Reid. Any questions...?
