001 - [Video]

[The image displayed is of nothing human. It is, in fact, nothing more than a panda in a pair of darned pants standing straight up as if he knows no other way to stand. He’s obviously in the new “home” he’s been given, and if it’s possible for him to seem even more out of place, he somehow manages it. It’s similar but it’s not, and he’s never seen anything like the kedan before.

He’s entirely out of his element, and if it was ever doubted that a panda could display that much with expression, he’s living, standing, awkward proof that a panda can do just that.
]

Uh. [Brief, something that was almost a word but never quite made it. He has no idea about these devices except for what he’s been told, and he still finds it difficult to believe. Others can see him, he can see them, and they can speak that way. How is that possible?] So. Hi. This showing a picture, right? A…a moving one, I guess. I don’t really understand, but that’s what those guys told me, so it probably does, right?

[He’s blathering. This is hardly anything new with him, and he realizes it, and that also shows. He runs a paw over his face, ears popping right back into place when it passes over them.]

Yeah, so, the introduction thing, I guess. I’m, uh, [awkward] Po [still awkward] and I’m from a place called the Valley of Peace, and [little less awkward] I never really thought that when you ascended, it was to another city. Thought of it more like another plane. But that’s okay, because you can’t ascend anything when you’re asleep, but you can apparently get trapped, and that’s pretty, uh. That really sucks. Like. It sucks a lot.

[He’s still obviously out of his element, but he stands up a little straight and stops fidgeting.]

Is there anything that whoever else here can tell me that doesn’t suck?

[Things that suck less are also wanted, and it’s after a close-up of a bear paw that the image disconnects.]

one. » voice.

So... this is a place between life, death, and dreaming, huh? Well, I guess I've heard of weirder things happening.

[ there's some shifting and fiddling before kara continues. randomly introducing herself to a network like this is a little awkward. ]

At least I've got some experience with the being trapped away from home thing. Alternate realities can be a huge pain in the ass like that. [ p...ause... ] In any case, is there anyone on this network that knows of a city called Metropolis? I figure if I'm going to be stuck here, I might as well see if there's anyone at least a little familiar around.

If you haven't heard of it, do you mind if I ask where you come from?

[when ophelia turns on the video, she’s seated in front of her terminal, all the lights in her room turned off save for the one in the monitor itself. the brightness of that light illuminating her from the front with nothing behind her makes her look even more eerie than usual. it makes the dark makeup around her eyes and the shredded, almost-moving black clothing she’s wearing stand out even more vividly against the purple-blue of her skin. her expression is a bored one - and bitter, because there’s no moment when she isn’t bitter against something or someone.]

Dead, am I.

[she laughs, hollowly.]

I guess that puts me at two for two. Apparently not even a demon can kill me.

[unblinking, she stares into the camera even as she reaches to the side of her and picks up her guitar from where she left it leaning against the side of the chair. once it’s in her hands, though, she looks down at it lovingly, strumming it once for effect.]

I’m just so lucky. [a glance back up, a very brief smirk.] How many of you have gotten to write your own funeral dirge twice?

[she plays a few chords (minor key, of course) before sitting up straight and turning the feed off.]

VIDEO;

Hello everyone. [The girl on the video is in her early teens at most, and at face seems completely unbothered by her surroundings. She supports her chin in both hands, eying the console like she's waiting for an answer.]

Not so bad, for a kidnapping. Never been on this side of one before though - usually they issue terms way before this, and the Emperor seems like the one to ask. Do you think they're aiming for some kind of quota before they tell us what we're here for?

[She sits back from the console and crosses her arms, tapping the fingers of one hand against her crisp shirtsleeve. She's wearing the clothes she arrived in - a suit vest, a white button-up shirt, slacks and a tie, all carefully pressed and clearly tailored to fit.] Either way, probably some or all of us will die, or it wouldn't be a such a secret.

[She leans in again.] Oh! I almost forgot. The army people here - is there anyone willing to spar with me? Anyone with martial training, really. Preferably field experience, black ops, that kind of thing. Being here is no reason to slack, right? [One eyebrow up, waiting for her invisible class to give the wrong answer.]

[A cheerful wink.] If anyone knows a good place for noodles, I'd appreciate it!

[And she signs off.]
